Are my panniers too wide.?
« on: June 09, 2016, 22:32:26 »
I have a pair of the big Givi Maxia panniers (52l) and was considering getting the fitting kit for my 650 Wee but wondered, with the high level exhaust would it make the bike as wide as a bus.?
Would I need to buy a slimmer pannier for one side, has anyone fitted them and lived with it.?
I imagine they'd be fitted only if I were to nip to the continent or TT etc so it'd not be a day to day issue.
Any thoughts folks.??

I thought Givi only recommend 52L cases to be used as a top box, not side cases? Some use 46 left / 33 right to deal with the offset caused by the exhaust, but it still isn't even - it makes the left wider. I use a 52 top box and two 33 sides. No filtering, but I try and avoid heavy traffic areas anyway if on holiday.

I use 33/46 trekkers and do filter, you just need to  be mindful of gaps as the rear is wider than the handlebars...

For the most part I can manage with the 52L top box, it's really only when taking the Mrs  that I need the extra space.

I'll refrain from giving the obvious reply to that last statement ????

Thanks for the input blokes.
Not heard of the 52l 'rule' Mr Nuts, makes sense I guess, though these panniers have now been on two other bikes successfully (originally they came with a VFR, I kept them and used them on a Fazer 600) and being a tight @rse thought I'd test the water and see if others had fitted such big boxes to theirs.
It'd definitely be a case of 'Does my bum look big in these' if I did use them..
Having said all that, I only managed 800 miles last year and was spurred into action purely following a trip to the TT.
Thanks again.  :thumb:

Had a pair of kappa k960 44lt panniers on the standard Wee racks.
Never had any issues doing a bit of filtering 2up on our Scotland tour a few years back. I now have them on my Varadero.
As long as you remember they are there just go for it.

Here they are fitted to my Wee.
