New European DL650 £5,800 - bargain or not?
« on: May 23, 2016, 20:02:33 »
I'm looking to buy a V Strom 650 and came across a dealer selling new, 2016 European models for £5,800 (+£100 for tax, reg.,..).

   "Suzuki V-Strom ABS BRAND NEW 2016 AL6 DL650..."
They claim it is the same as a UK bike and with a 2 year Suzuki warranty.

Is this a bargain or is there something I should know about? Might insurance be an issue?

Thanks,
John

I've not checked recently but when I was looking, you could get a new uk model for less than that with 3yrs interest free. That was a year ago mind.

There is a very nice looking 15 reg 400 mile gleek in the fs section for under 5k with extras.

Insurance not an issue, bike the same as uk dealers, flat beam headlights, same spec and Suzuki stand over the warranty... https://www.Suzuki-gb.co.uk/ccr/customer-services-frequently-asked-questions/#FAQ_WARRANTY

I think you'll find all bikes on a boat for Europe are the same, just different paperwork involved.

You have to decide if it's a good price or even a bargain!
So how's it going so far then?

I think the log book will show it as being a import and dealers not always happy with that as not bought from home market. Some European bikes have lower horse power depending where from,
Lower resale value to consider when selling on. I decided  not to go this route.

Before I purchased my new bike on interest free I was thinking of going down this route, there are 2 dealers I was looking at, one in the midlands and one in Cambridgeshire. I phoned Suzuki UK and the warranty is no problem as any new bike arriving in the UK even from Europe is covered by Suzuki UK, the only difference being that from Jan 16 all new direct UK bikes have 3 years warranty and in many cases you can get them on interest free , but if your are spending your own money there is no problem. However when I was looking for mine a few months ago several dealers had pre-registered bikes, still with zero miles (at the end of the sales period if they haven't sold quite enough bikes they buy it themselves to make sure they get there sales bonus from Suzuki) and they were at fantastic prices, I paid £5300 for mine, 65 plate, registered 30 Dec 15, I got it in March 16 with lots of extras added and the total still came to less than the OTR price from my local Suzuki agent, who wouldn't move on his price as he was well up on his sales figures anyway. I got mine from Preston Superbikes :) Happy hunting
