service intervals again
« on: May 22, 2016, 23:58:24 »
I'm sure this is an often asked question but here goes.

I have a 2015 DL650 which I now see is an AL4.
When I bought it a year ago I am sure the salesman told me it was 7500.

I've done around 6000 in my first year and just booked it in for a service, bloke on the phone said it should have been in at 4000.

So even though I bought it in 2015 do I have a 2014 on the old service schedule?

I've emailed Suzuki but not heard back yet.

Advice appreciated

7,500 is fine.

Suzuki told me they didn't know of any changes to the internals of the engine and claimed the factory wouldn't tell them, which I means there isn't any (we all know manufacturers love to announce revisions as it's a way to get people to trade their bikes in for the latest model)

Mine runs happily on 7,500 miles or 12 months.

If your DL650A is an L4, it is, by definition, a 2014 model year bike. A means w/ABS and L4 means 2014. The service schedule changed on the 2015 model year on the L5. The schedule changed due to a corporate decision, not because of changes to the bike. If you want to service the bike to keep it in good condition, you can use the longer interval schedule. If you need to service the bike to support a warranty, you need to use the shorter interval schedule because Suzuki are not supporting a change until 2015/L5 models.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Thanks for that. ..Looks like I've been caught out with the servicing as I'm sure the salesman said 7500 at the time.
And as I'm on a 3 year pcp  I need to service at the required intervals.

And the annoying thing is they want 180 quid for what is essentially an oil change!

Going to check out my local independent garage as I believe they can no longer force you to use the official dealer

I believe with bikes they can, Triumph do. Suzuki are not so strict with regards the the warranty, I'm not sure about the terms of your PCP agreement thought.

Will Suzuki honour my warranty if my motorcycle is serviced by a non Suzuki Dealer?
Yes, so long as any defects are not the result of any service related issues

I think a few choice words are needed with the salesman in question!

As said above, PCP may be different as I think part of the terms may be to use the official dealership? [Check that out in your agreement] That said, if you've been getting it serviced by the place that sold you the bike, and the salesman said 7,500 (which is obviously why you signed up) then I don't think it'd be an issue...

The salesman might not have been aware (or forthcoming) with the fact that you'd end up with an AL4 model registered in 2015, which doesn't have the Suzuki nod for 7500 interval.

You might fall foul of the agreement come the time to hand it back as you've missed/was late with the 3500 and I think PCP requires you to stick to the service schedule, I would go in and see the dealer and get any agreement in writing as soon as possible.

Thanks to all the replies.

I've checked my agreement and it doesn't actually stipulate that I need to have it serviced at the dealers.

So I'm going to my local place and I'm going to ask him nicely if heel stick 4000 odd miles on the book.

I suppose it might affect the value in a couple of years when its time to return it, but so long as I get the guaranteed minimum it will be okay.
