Hyperpro rear spring
« on: May 19, 2016, 07:29:54 »
I've 500 miles now on the hyperpro rear spring, I can safely say it's much firmer than the oe.
The standard factory preload setting on a Veek is 11 clicks out of a maximum of 26, so you've used half your  preload right away.  I found it to soft two up with luggage at speed, even at max preload.
The hyperpro changes all that, for a 85kg rider solo you need no preload at all and two up only 10-15 clicks.
It can though feel a bit harsh on bumpy back roads, my wife ssys she feels more bumps but I like the support it gives better.

That's interesting, I would like something between the stock one and that, so I can go softer if I want, such as solo on frosty roads.

I'm two up 95% of the time so its a help but if your only solo and under 85kg it might be to stiff apart from hard riding. I'm sure it'll soften a bit, damping seems to cope OK.
I'd like to fit the front springs to. The harder springs with ligher oil and a larger air gap ( 5w and 150mm) work wonders for the harsh front forks on my tiger800. The Veek is not as bad as the tiger but can still be harsh at times.

I put another ring of preloaded on my forks, and I'm happy with that, though I would like to drop the front end 10mm by raising the forks in the yolks and see if it sharpens things up without making it frisky at higher speeds, so if anyone has done this on a Veek I would be interested in feedback.

I've dropped the forks , certainly seems nicer to me , no adverse side effects.

Thanks, think I will give it a try when I get back to base from my road trip, new rear tyre needed too. :)

Done 130 mile yesterday two up. Started with no preload but bike too low, went to 10 clicks and much better, then 15 but that was too much, back till 12 was spot on. On the standard spring I was running 12-15 solo. This was 85kg rider and 80kg pillion, top box but only waterproofs in it. So there should be plenty of spring preload left for the full luggage.

Same as you Porter, I run 14 or 15 solo, on my trip to Scotland, two up and loaded, me 13.5 stone, Sally at about 10 stone I had the preloaded wound out to 21, and it was OK,  but could have taken a couple more clicks.

I used to run mine at 23 two up r max with full luggage but never liked the way it would sit down at speed loaded. Hyperpro spring just firms things up a bit, I'm happy with it so far. Off to the tt soon and Scotland in July all two up, see how we get on. No doubt over the mountain it'll feel too soft again! lol
