Riding back from Suton-on-Sea to Grantham last Thursday with my sixteen year old son on pillion.We hit a deer on a A road the result being a dead deer,young Jack with severe road rash to his right knee and myself broken clavical,broken scapula and three broken ribs.Ouch

Judging by the photos and not having seen the damage properly, I'd suggest you do it yourself and not go through the insurance company. They seem to be fairly easy fixes. If you claim through your insurance you will find that inevitably your premiums will rise more than normal and some insurance companies might not want to insure you when the insurance is due.

More importantly, it will be classed as an insurance job and you might have trouble selling it.

Just something to think about.

Since you didn't declare them then you will have a tough time getting anything from the insurance people.

It's going to take about six weeks or so before I'm fit to ride again.That gives me plenty of time to think things through.I was only doing 60 mph on a quiet A road the deer ran straight across the road out of the hedges.It was horrid.I had just got the bike set up the way I wanted it as well

lucky escape. Hope you get better. If I'm not being too unsympathetic, how much in your estimation did the crash bars protect the bike's soft parts? could they have done better?

You heard about deer whistles, stick it on front of bike, deer hear it and stand still? We don't hear it, about £3
