Wee - Rear Caliper Not Straight
« on: May 08, 2016, 21:40:33 »
Soo.. wonder if anyone has had a similar problem..

Just refurbed the rear caliper, new seals, new piston and new pads. Noticed it was still getting hot, so took it off for a look.

Pads show uneven wear, and you can see the caliper doesn't sit straight...

If you look at the bottom edge of the left pad, you can see it doesn't sit flush

I have a feeling its something to do with the rear sliding pin, as when I take this out, I can straighten out the caliper and get contact from the whole pad... But I don't really know why this is happening, because its a sliding caliper, it should be free to move?

Anyone had a similar problem. Can't see that the pin is bent in anyway and doesn't look damaged.... Only thing I did notice, was the small rubber boot is missing, and when tightened up, the sliding bolt head doesn't sit flush...

Anyone had similar?

It looks like the caliper isn't sliding properly so it got canted instead.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Does it sit flush when you put the foot on the brake? if so could be play in the mounting holes.
More likely that the caliper mounting bolts are either bent or in the wrong thread/ badly cut thread holes. Remove the caliper and screw the bolts in and see if they are square or sit at an angle.

Set up does not appear the same as my Wee !!!!
Anyway, it looks like the rear guide bolt is not in correctly, have you cross threaded it ?
It can only be that or that the sliding part is seized up, suggest you take it back off and have a look.

On my old serow the two wheel spacers on either side were slightly different in width, if you put them in the wrong way round it looked like your pic, don't know if Suzuki do the same, just a thought.
I've been asked why I have 3 bikes, well that's because I'm not allowed any more.

How so? Appears the same as both in the Haynes and the service manual.

I have a feeling the sliding pin has been cross threaded by the previous owner, looking at the pads he had installed before, they had a strange diagonal wear on them.

Bought an absolutely mint rear caliper for £30 looks pretty much brand new! Fitted it all up and it works perfect now.

I suspect you are correct, for some reason picture makes it look different, glad you got it sorted out.

Could the caliper bracket not be located into the slider on the swingarm correctly, knocking the whole lot out of alignment?

I had the same thought as you Hondaman, so I took it off and back on again it still looks like the first picture of Moo's. found one at Hull so if I can get there be for 5pm he's holding it for me. I need it doing so I can  go to the Bude meet.
