New lamps that aren't Kirky lamps and don't flash.
« on: May 08, 2016, 07:15:21 »
Following the sad demise of one of my Kirky lamps I was on the hunt for replacements.  These fit the bill.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152060343410?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT.

Installed 'em yesterday, they are well made, quite substantial and very bright (unlike me, before you start). I went for the flood beam. Pics later.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I've bought a set the very same. Still not fitted them yet! I concur TLP, they are very well made.

They look the same as the ones I fitted to replace my Kirky's lights. I have been very impressed with them so far - they add a nice amount of additional light and light up roadsigns from a long way off!

Can you change the lamps in these or are they a sealed unit?

They have some small allen screws that appear to retain the end portion holding the lens assembly. (So  :haha:) I would say yes.

Those look pretty good. Have you found suitable mounting brackets?

I made my own from a recently deceased picnic table. Fit them to crash bars if you have them using http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SWA-CABLE-LEAD-WIRE-CLIPS-CLEATS-CC7-18MM-17-8MM-for-securing-armoured-cable of the correct size.

I got the brackets from Alchemy Parts on Amazon. They aren't the cheapest, but the quality is very high, the were a doddle to fit and they are really solid.

Hold fire with your hard earned. One has stopped working already, I've swapped over the lamps and still no joy...

Daft question but how do they work? I've taken it apart and we have power coming down the wires to the board.

Internally do the wires just go to a led chip or is there a led driver pcb inside that then goes to the chip? I would hope it has a constant current driver in there if it's of any quality

There appears to be a little board with a small black box that the pos+ goes to and the neg is soldered to the board.

I've contacted the seller, he wants a picture of it not working....

Not going to be something you can remedy with a simple fix,it does sound like it has some control circuitry inside so that's a good sign or reasonable quality.they should replace the unit with little trouble.picture of it not working won't be difficult ????????

The picture did the trick, they're sending me a replacement tomorrow morning.  :)

I am puzzled. How do you show a picture of something not working. :icon_exclaim:
On the grounds that we can't prove a negative or in my case trying to prove to my wife that I hadn't done something she was certain I had done. :violence-smack:
I hadn't but it made no difference.  :groan:

So now I live 40 miles away but Hello! every cloud has a silver lining. :smirk:

Can you keep taking pictures of an unplugged one so they keep sending you replacements until we all have them??

I sent a picture of the non-functioning light with a volt meter connected to the terminals. I suppose they thought I might have damaged it.

My interest is purely selfish  :shy: as I also bought a set and have just wired then in. So far they do work, but not yet with bike running. Not while its  :rain:. So .....  sometime towards the end of the month if the forecasters are right.
