I hadn't intended doing anything other than fixing up what was already there and moving it on: I had the use on an SV for a day and didn't get on with it so I'm unlikely to want to keep it.
A basic top yoke for the conversion is £125, probably an easy £200 for the whole setup, which I'd never see back in a sale price premium for doing the job.

Tonight was a bit frustrating: I polished up and re-fitted the 2 sides of the rear bodywork, then remembered that the centre section has to be fitted to them first, so off they came and then back on with that bit attached.  :angry-banghead:
Then I fitted the airbox and had that all sorted. And spotted that I needed to have put the upper fairing mounts on first so it had to come back off too..  :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:
Well, I can always get things ready for filling the brakes, but you can't get into the rear brake reservoir with the bodywork fitted, so took it all off yet again. :dl_smiley_banghead: :angry-banghead: :dl_smiley_banghead:

However, I did fit the sidestand and the left hand switchgear & cables. None of which have had to come back off (yet)...

I've been making the most of free time this week & had the bike pretty much back together. All that I had left to do was fill the radiator, tank on, fit right side fairing and that's pretty much it.

Until I started filling the radiator to find coolant pissing out. I traced it back to the two connections from the cylinders to the thermostat: new o-rings went in but clearly haven't sealed properly as you could see the coolant running out. So, airbox out, throttle & choke cables off, carbs out, thermostat out at the least.

Not overly happy right now....

Here's how I started off today

And here's where I ended up having to take the bike back to

This is the offending port that was leaking

Both were leaking as the o-rings had chunks taken out of them trying to fit. They are just too fat to fit without damaging them - probably fine in the factory with a special tool, but a barsteward for us mere mortals.

I had slightly thinner o-rings and fitted them with a little bit of silicone based security as well. All back together and filled up - holding up so far.

Sussed out how to embed pics in posts again as you'll have noticed!

Little spot the difference competition:

Yup, I managed to fit the feed hose from the rear brake reservoir outside of the frame & only realised when I tried to fit the cover panel that goes there. Got away with it in that all I had to do was clamp off the hose & thread it through the right way.

Unless you strip it down to the frame, it's hardly a deep clean...

Tonight was another 'waste' of time - an oil leak from the bottom of the clutch side case had made itself known so oil and water dropped and case off: gasket was whole, but clearly not quite substantial enough. A little sealant was applied to the surfaces and back together again: holding up so far.

This is one of the offending o-rings which caused Sunday's issue:

By your command.

One of the trim pieces that cover the mirror bolts has hidden itself so have to hunt around for it, and I've not tried firing it up as yet, so maybe not quite done yet...

Still have to have a once over the nuts & bolts to check there's nothing left one-torqued.

One less thing to worry about now - just popped out to the garage again and turned the key.

Electrics all seem to work so thumbed the starter and...

Whirr, whirr, whirr

Phut phut

Vroom...

It lives!! :happydance:

Idle needs a wee adjust, but fired up quite happily. The rear cylinder wasn't firing when I picked it up so I've sorted whatever was awry there - maybe duff plug, loose connection, blocked jet?

For as cheap & nasty the Blue Flame exhaust is widely held to be, it sounded quite nice. It has the baffle fitted to the top outlet, and the small lower one is closed off altogether, so it's reasonably tame. I may try it with the different options to see how noisy it gets, but I could live with how it is right now.

Right now, all I have are pictures of the various components that I'm using as part of the rubuild.... below images are just a teaser as to what the spec / quality of the finished article should be.
It's pretty much a nut & bolt restoration. Full engine rebuild with big bore kit, new syspension, new brakes, new brake / clutch master cylinders. New Tyres, brake discs, chain and sprockets. . A full OEM theme respray with a few small alterations. Replace all bearings, upgrade the wiring, installing a few modern upgrades etc. It shiuld almost  be a brand new bike when it's all back together.

Gosh.

That lot looks mega. Is that a Sam motor?

well, hopefully I can get it all setup the way I envisaged then it should be a pretty capable 20yrs old super bike lol.
Yes, it is indeed a Sam rebuild / big bore motor. Everything checked over... apparently I have one of the very few original gearboxes that are still in one piece and not needing any replacement parts.... the big end shells... well that was a different story. I dodged a huge bullet by deciding to split the engine and do the big end rebuild with new oil pumps, seals gaskets etc rather that just bolting on the big bore kit. The old big end shells were very near to going pop.....so I was a lucky boy indeed.
