Not today, or yesterday but last Sunday.

I met up with the "Tardy Twins" Rusty and Endintears at the Border Tea Rooms in Masham.
A chilly ride up facilitated the years first use of the Baader Meinhof vest and heated socks.

After a very mediocre full English (5/10) we set off on our route comprising of one-numbered single track roads. The furthest North was just shy of Barnard Castle in the Stang Forest area.

The weather was exceedingly kind, the company excellent and the scenery absolutely stunning. I think I clocked between 260 and 270 miles, a good 100 miles short of our usual but I suspect our average speed was significantly reduced.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

@TL
Arkengarth Dale, The Stang, Eskeleth, Whaw.
Not a lot of Norman influence in the place names in that area I'm thinking. :)

I had a very nice trundle out today with my mate Matt & his GS1200. We set off through Hexam, Slaley & Blanchland heading over the Durham moors which provided some stunning views, if a little bit blustery. We then followed the Wear Valley to Alston, heading towards Slaggyford and a stop at The Nook farmshop & cafe (pic 1). This place is very biker friendly and when we left there were over 30 bikes parked up! From there we headed along to Brampton and then back towards home via Hadrians Wall, past the 'Sycamore Stump' before stopping at the Riverside Cafe at Chollerford for a slice of their home made ham & egg pie (pic 2). After the refil it was home via Belsay & Morpeth. It was a cracking run out, especially for the middle of October and another 150 mile day. Happy, but the bike is minging...

Took my FJR on a FJ club run.
Start/finish point at Shrewsbury, 150 miles around the mountain passes of mid Wales, lunch at Machynleth. Weather mostly good apart from the bit Newtown back to Shrewsbury.
Great mix of roads, lovely views, 13 bikes.

I have put the Harley on the Oxford optimiser to keep the Battery charged over winter ( don’t think I will be riding now until the spring) as the bike is only 100 miles away from its First service I thought I’d leave it until spring then get the service done.
While I was in the garage I put the metal Sign up that my wife had bought me, and with the help of her we put the 5 paddock stands up in the Eves of the garage just to make more room in there 🤣

Nice man cave  :thumb:

Yes, I think that might be it for the year now. It's forecast to belt down for the next week or so by which time the tempretures will be getting close to freezing and the dreaded salt will be on the roads.

So ... finally after two months my new wheels have arrived and this weekend I had some spare time to fettle ..  :auto-dirtbike:

Pretty easy work as the wheels are built around original BMW F800 hubs, so basically all that was needed was to swap the brake discs over.

Fitted Michelin Anakee Adventures , 120/70/19 & 170/60/17 with tubes , this is the more popular size tyres that go on most Adventure bikes, my old setup had a limited tyre choice.

The only hassle I had was the front mudguard, after lots of research I couldn't find any custom mudguards so I had to modify my original by cutting an inch and a half off the mount points to lower it , bit of an faff but I think I looks and fits pretty well.

Went for a 30 mile rest ride and over all I'm chuffed with the results, the bike is about 25mm lower which is a bonus for a short arse like me,  it handles very well and seems more planted however once the new tyres are scrubed in I can really put it through its paces..

For info , original BMW hubs, rims are aluminium anodised black, spokes are stainless that have gone through some procedure to turn them black, don't ask me what it's called as I can't remember...  lol

Big thanks to http://www.williswheels.co.uk/ fantastic service and value for money ..

The last picture is what my old wheels looked like .

Well yesterday.

Endintears plotted a scenic route to Saltburn for the consumption of fish and chips. Oscars https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g776120-d10806436-Reviews-Oscars_Fish_Chips-Saltburn_by_the_Sea_North_Yorkshire_England.html provided the excellent dinner which was consumed on the pier under the watchful eyes of the local gulls.

A testing route back to Seaways at Fridaythorpe ensured a run home in the dark.

Huge thanks to Mrs Tears for the ginger cake, Mr Tears for the route, Mr Ridaz for the youth and Mr Nuts for the laughs.

XJ600n: Job 1 Leaky fuel tap, removed stripped cleaned and reassembled with kit of 5 new seals. A complicated thing as it has no off position but instead should only allow fuel to flow in the "ON" and "RESERVE" when the engine is running and the inlet manifold is generating a vacuum  to pull the valve open. The "PRIME" position allows fuel to charge the carbs for starting purposes only. Leaving the pet-cock in "PRIME" or with a defective seal tends to flood the engine with petrol. And that is not good. Job number 2 was to fit the replacement clutch lever that I got off ebay for £8. It fitted perfectly.  The old one had a rather elongated pivot hole and was losing quite a lot of pull on the cable.  Now waiting for a replacement fuel cap and an ignition switch which are in the hands of Yodel and will be delivered one day, some time, in the future.

I hope you have a step ladder handy to get the bits off the shed roof where Yodel "delivered" them  ###

'Click and collect' to Argos just round the corner. It proves, without doubt, someone WAS in (when they can't be asked to drive up here for just one parcel).  I don't have to sit at home and wait for it and I can pick it up when I get a text. Marvellous innit.

Brockett,
Those vacuum taps are a sod.I had one on my GPZ900R which failed and flooded the engine.
First I knew something was wrong was when I tried to start it and it just went CLUNK when I thumbed the starter.
I pulled the plugs and turned the engine over and petrol shot out of number 1 cyl.
AHHH.Hydraulic lock.,
Left it for a day or two with the plugs out  while I got a second hand tap then put a drop of oil down each bore, turned it over and put the plugs back in.
Thankfully it started right up with no damage.
I counted myself as very lucky.

Yes, I'm thinking 'in line tap'  but some research is required.

If you have new seals I wouldn't worry too much , the GPZ had 30.000 odd miles on before the tap caused problems so you should be OK for a bit.

Admit it, Brockett. You just want to buy a petcock so you can tell people "I've got a new pet cock."
