You've changed... you used to be as tight as them up't-north  lol

I'm still running the chainsaw oil - cheapest I can find on ebay.

As you may have experienced, working in an establishment repairing motorcycles you sometimes come across the odd freebie.

I wouldn't buy it otherwise...   lol

Today, I finished off wiring in my new fog/auxiliary lights on the tigger. The factory Triumph ones were at best poor and atrocious value for money (thankfully they were included when I bought the bike, had I paid £360 for them I would not have been happy). The original ones were also placed very close to the headlight & indicators, far from ideal. I've fitted the new fog lights lower and further apart for better visibility (both seeing and being seen). As the tigger is CanBus I had to take an alternative switched supply, so I've fitted a neat little switch on the handlebars. I can also now used dip beam instead of just the side light with the factory fit fog lights. Happy, but why didn't Triumph just do this from the start....

My new birthday tool box arrived and was assembled (with a bit of a fight) last night. Now the hard bit - filling it up !

I labeled my 'spare' exhaust baffle too...

On drying roads I took the Stone out for run around the block and stopped off at the water tower for a snap. 54 miles. Not too mucky but it still took longer the wash and dry the bike than to do the ride. Still only 425 miles on the ODO.  However a good test of the screen, which is awful and will have to be cut down 50mm at a time and the guard I mad to keep road grit and muck off the swing arm pivot. It works but still needs widening.

Gave it its first run out since doing the valve clearances
Reassembling it fully at weekend seemed to somehow magically precipitate an awful lot of precipitation :GRR:
However only the odd shower today so managed a 40 mile loop taking in the Glossop to Bamford half of the Snake Pass.
When I got back no signs of any leaks nothing fallen off  :handgestures-fingerscrossed:  so made a start on the oil and filter change.

Excellent work Neil.  :lala:

I am picking up an awful lot of smugness on my smugness detector.

Well I managed to get in to the garage today (without falling over)  :old: :icon_crutch:
I started both bikes up and let them run for 10 minutes,  even though both bikes have been connected to optimisers they both started but did not turn over that quickly.
I know the last time I started the KTM (last year) the TFT screen showed the service was due.
This time it didn’t start first time it did the 2nd time then the screen showed General failure ?
Has anybody any ideas please

General failure is usually battery condition on a 1290, they are quite sensitive beasts. I really wouldn't worry at all, don't start it again until you can ride it for a significant amount of time. Keep it on the charger.  :)

A lot of batteries will struggle in this weather.

Yes , as said KTMs are rather sensitive and it's probably the battery.

Not sure if you leave your battery chargers on 24/7 but in my opinion,  even though its regulated voltage, I wouldn't be leaving them on constantly.

Personally, when I'm not riding my BMW I charge the battery twice a week for a few hours at a time.
It's kept in a warmish, dry garage so the battery isn't affected by the cold so a few hours is enough.

Totally different if a bike is kept outside of course.

Thank you for your reply’s 👍

Yes I do keep all 4 bikes on the optimisers 24/7 ( I didn’t plug the KTM or the B-king back in today though)

And the V-Strom & the Triumph which are stored at work have both been on the optimisers 24/7 since October 2021 (not ideal I know but since my accident I had no choice )

I am not a lover of optimisers as I don't believe they charge well enough. Had this with my old sprint, battery failed so so checked voltage and the optimiser would only ever charge at about 12.9 volts. Changed the battery no different, so I then rigged an old low Amp car charger (14v) with a cig plug on the end, that I connect to the bikes about twice a year, not had a failed battery in 7 years... I don't know a lot other than what works  lol

Bit ashamed the big Yam has been neglected since the young upstart arrived, not been run since November, so optimate on overnight and treated her to a little bumble this morning, not far but enough to blow the cobwebs away.
Forgot just how good that FJR motor is.
Ran like a dream and she still picks her skirts up and flies even after 85,000 miles.

Crump, does your FJR buzz at around 4000 rpm?

Froglodyte.....not so I've noticed, although now you've mentioned it, maybe noticed a slight buzz at a certain rev range when I first got it.
It's possible I've got used to it if so and maybe ride to avoid it, I've had it over 14 years and done over well over 60,000 miles on it and it's never been something that's bothered me.
