Tyres?
« on: February 05, 2016, 23:00:51 »
Manged about 8.5k miles on the Bridgestones but it's time for new Tyres! I've posted a question on the Vstrom Facebook page what should I go for? Thinking about the New Bridgestone A40s ! Options:
Metzler Tourance
Anakee2
Anakee3
Pilot Road 4s
Mita E07
Heidenhau K60( these look great dual sports)
TKC70s
Mitas EO8 or EO7

Anakee 2 or 3 if you ride into tarmac unknown.
Pilot road if you stick to good tarmac or commuting.

I've ran both e-09 and K60 and both are great for light trails and general off the beaten track stuff but you sacrifice handleing and mileage.

Just got home today from a 1750 kms 4 dayer with some information to help in your decision making.
I got 17,000 kms  (10,600 miles) out of my original Bridgestones but tried Conti TKC70s for a little more aggressive tread this time. Both tyres had similar conditions, uses and even trips - a 7,000 km Australian outback tour which included nearly 10% gravel.
These TKC70s have disappointed me a little. They'll nearly toasted at 10,300 kms ridden the same way and doing nothing really any better than the originals.
I'm going back to Bridgestones next month.
I would have tried Heidenaus but, having them on my DR650, I don't think they'll do any better than my Dunlop 606s and for double the cost.
Just my opinion but hope it helps.

that's quite a range of tyre types, give us a clue as to your typical riding requirements.

Thanks for the feedback Stevecro , I've read that there is new Bridgestone Battlax A40 http://www.bridgestone.co.uk/moto/ranges/battlax/a40/  which will be superseeding the Stock Veek tyres. I mainly ride tarmac but ocasionally I do venture on loose stuff like fire roads and the odd gravel trail. I don't intend to do Greenlaning or anything extreme, my DR250 will handle that, the Veek is the mile muncher!

I put the A40"s on mine but with this weather I can't tell you what they perform like,  they look good! I was happy enough with the oe Bridgestones so I'm sure these will be fine.  The two things that done it for me was the price, £180 fitted to loose ( pr4's where 225) and the fact that I was told that the v strom 1000 was one of the main bikes Bridgestone developed the a40 on. I'm in Northern Ireland and we never get the tyre deals you blokes can get on the mainland, I'm sure you can beat my price easy!

Hi
I'm a fan of the stock Bridgestones. Think I'll be replacing like for like when the time comes.  Good grip/wear, very predictable handling and confidence inspiring tyre.
I swapped the Bridgestones I had on the previous bike for Pilot Road 2's and took them off after a couple of thousand mile as they were no way as good as the Bridgestone 023's I'd had before.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm going to try some Bridgestone A40s they appear to be developed for the likes of the 1000. I had mega mileage on my 650 from Pilot Road 2s, they lasted for yonks infact we did three Europe trips on one set. The Anakees look and get superb reviews. I've decided on the A40s purely for my riding style. Ill give some feedback once I get them scrubbed in

more than welcome. I'm thinking I might do likewise.
Several of us can compare experiences, wear, grip etc down the track
Happy trails

New tyres this weekend but before then,  these photos are the stock Oem Bridgestones I've clocked 8900 miles on these , mixed riding including a long European tour. Can't complain at all.

Roadrocket, I would also consider the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II. The German magazine Motorrad did a 50Tkm ride test on the DL1000 and went through 6 sets of Tyres. Pirelli outperformed them all (Bridgestone BW 501/502, Bridgestone A40, Continental RoadAttack 2, Dunlop TrailSmart, Metzeler Tourance Next). Result was: For the V-Strom the Scorpion Trail II is the clear tyre recommendation. The V-Strom goes with steering precision and with clear feedback around the corner. On the highway it moves directionally stable. The Pirelli conveys much confidence and lets the Suzuki appear 20 kilos lighter. The wet grip is top and significantly distances itself from the competitors.

Picked up, recall work done and new tyres fitted. A40s already ordered so too late to change to Scorpion 2s, came home via tarmac, loose gravel, farm tracks and they feel good.

Good choice.  I have them on mine, well the rear,  front sitting in garage as still a few thousand miles left on the oe front yet. The Northern Ireland bridgestone rep told my mate that the Veek was one of the main bikes bridgestone used to develop the a40's so should be good.

They are indeed ran them before now but don't like the tread pattern for the loose stuff
