Well .... It's finally happened
« on: December 29, 2015, 22:41:10 »
Dropped Suzy tonight on the way home from work .... slow speed .... In fact stopped ... had to go to the shop because the lazy Feckers indoors couldn't be bothered.
Came to a stop on a slight camber .. swung my leg out to put the side stand down as I've done a thousand times before ... felt the stand touch the floor and stood up .
Down she went ... I didn't let go and lowered her to the floor ... can't see any damage but will wait until morning. ... my back is hurting now though  :bawl:

Been there, done that, got the slightly scuffed crashbars....

She should have survived a stationary laydown without any major damage.

+1 for minimal damage. I only lost the ball off the brake lever.

You are OK and that is what matters.

Bugger.

Done it myself.
And pinned myself to the front window of the house, sitting on the sil with the bike on my legs.

Hope the back is feeling better. And there shouldn't be much damage from a stationary drop.

And me. On the front path at home. Makes you feel like such an idiot, AND you have to touch up the scratches on the crash bars.
Hope your back is OK.

I trained myself to use new (to me) technique so the bike would never roll of the side stand. After stopping, instead of switching off the ignition, I keep the bike in 1st gear, clutch in, and open the side stand. That move turns the engine off. Just then I get off and next I turn the ignition off and remove the key.
Using that technique I never dismount the bike without it being in 1st gear.
Took me a while to force myself to do it every time but now I do it without even thinking. For few months, after stopping, I had to repeat to myself "Don't touch the key, don't touch the key..."

Thanks people ... I've had her for 2 years and it's my first  ###
My back is OK this morning. . Just !!!
Surveyed the damage just now and is not as bad as I feared. .. very minor scratches on the Heed bars (any suggestions on touching them up) ... Also some minor scratches on my spotlamp brackets.
I can live with that I suppose. ... you live and learn.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Holmsey.

I, like many others can see a pattern emerging.

Suspects "fall" down stairs. You let poor Dinger take the blame when you reversed into him and broke his beak.

Now this sorry episode, blaming others for not going to the shops, you jumping off your 'bike and being surprised by gravity.

Happy New Year anyway.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

 lol TL.

Glad you're OK Holmsey. I think black satin hammerite might match the crashbars but you may want test it discretely first.

Hi

Dropped my 2012 orange L2 in a layby in October, did not get away with it, Had to buy a new headlamp unit, not something I want to do too often, very expensive.

Reminds me of when I was riding an very old BMW in western USA, and need a 'jimmy', and as it was very hot, I needed a layby with a bit of shade.
Spotted a beautiful layby with tarmac, just the ticket!
Bike on centre-stand, and I got beside the bike, in the hope of not frightening any passers-by, but did not noticed that one of the centre-stand feet was sinking in the hot tarmac!
Stop laughing at the back there, because as the foot sank into the tarmac the bike started to push hard against my back, and my front got pinned against the Armco barrier in front of me!!!!

So there I was trying to finish off, and not get my best mate crushed on the steelwork, whilst trying to hold the bike upright with my bum. There was no one around and I was on my own, and I finally, after awhile, I could turn around and support the bike.
I saw the funny side, and laughed for quite some time, but another motorist arrived, so trying not to look like an idiot, laughing on my own, I saddled up and moved on, still chuckling as I went.

Cheers
Crazyhorse

If it makes you feel better,  my mate caught my first strom-drop on his helmet cam:

Not sure he had to edit the Family Gu.y reference on to it before sending it to me like.

This was also after a 3 day weekend over 1000 miles done, and about 50 miles from home
