You should all take a Tiger 1050 for a spin at night, you will then realise your V-Strom OE lights are stunning in comparison  :smirk:

Good work though  :thumb:

Thanks Paul (just noticed you had made progress)  :thumb:  It seems the LEd's basically just blast out white light, with not enough control to make a genuine pattern/beam. That's like I've noticed with all the newer cars fitted with LED's, too - just a blinding light in the rear view mirrors, bliddy dangerous!

Maybe in a few years there'll be a fix, or the technology will have improved...

I'm not sure I can make the call on effectiveness of the light output. The reflectors decide where the light goes. I'm sure other road users will offer their opinions in due course!!

Hi - I was looking at these - They have a shield on low beam to emulate the normal halogens - Anyone got anywhere with these, Also can you send a link to the ones you fitted - thanks.

Hi Rob, there is a link in the first post for the ones that I fitted.

The ones you have linked look good. Buy some and report back.

Hi - Apologies didn't notice there was 3 pages, search took me to page 2.

I'm going to order these - I like the idea of the metal shield to shape the low beam cut off.

I've seen those exact same leds on ebay at around half the price. Don't pay that sort of money!

Finally road tested them in the dark. I have to say I'm very impressed. Good light throw, correct cutoff and far brighter and whiter than halogen bulbs. No drivers flashed at me for dazzling them either. I'm calling these a success.

I fitted some new LED spotlights today, ordered from Alchemy Parts via Amazon. I also ordered the 25mm mounting brackets to fit them onto my crashbars. I haven't had the opportunity to test them in the dark but first impressions are very positive.

Paul. Sounds very good, but I went to your first post and the link doesn't go to the leds. are there any other vendors?

I can only think it is because the original auction has ended. This is the eBay item number for the same item from the same supplier...

Thanks TP. I'm not sure about fans on these type of lights, but at least these have a fan failure protection mode. I was hoping to find a UK vendor. Some seem to be selling the same item, but usually around £10 dearer.

I have a set with the braided heatsinks and, although very bright and powerful, I'm not very happy with the beam pattern. Too many drivers flashing back at me and main beam doesn't have much penetration - just too much scatter.

Thanks Paul,  it's a very useful and thorough review of them. I've held back on purchasing as the type that I was considering would not fit my 400's headlight shell (too wide) and your type would definitely be very borderline depth-wise, nor is there room in there for much airflow to the fan. I'll look into different headlight shells now that know the bulbs function well.

Fitted and working look bright but not had a night time trip yet. The metal shield  seems to work as I don't get everything lit up like a xmas tree as you drive along like the HIDS they were very annoying to other road users not sure they are as bright first night time trip will tell. Really easy fitting. The bulb part twists/pulls out of the H4 collar to allow the rubber boot to go on and the ballast neatly cable ties to the fairing frame.

I bought some of these bulbs, although extremely bright I couldn't get the spring clip to reengage in the groove to secure the bulb in the housing, got fed up and they are sitting on my desk still, the ones referred to above sound as though they are easily fitted.

I guess a smaller diameter "fan" is preferable

TP,  just wondering how you're getting on with these during these dark days? One of my Philips Xtreme Vision bulbs (purchased 13 March 2016) has given up today. Thought my lights were crap recently, turns out they only last 250 hrs, or 150 days if you ride 2 hours a day.

Before buying replacement halogens I remembered this thread so thought I may give them a try if you still think it's worth it
