The longer suspension on a VStrom may make a difference to wear but I'm just changing my 650 Bandit for a 650 VStrom and I've had a V system Scottoiler fitted to the Bandit from new. At 24000 miles the chain and sprockets show little wear and outside of service times I've only had to adjust the chain twice in 8 years.
I've arranged to have another Scottoiler fitted to the VStrom as very impressed with them. Some people complain they are difficult to adjust but I've never had a problem and run it slightly richer than recommended and put up with a bit of oil on that corner of the bike.
As several people have said a well lubricated and adjusted chain makes for a much smoother ride.
