Fuel line connector 2012 650
« on: November 13, 2015, 11:52:32 »
Anyone else had problems with the connector under the fuel tank?

Bike half stripped in prep for service and adding bigpies fuse bloc so I can add Sat Nav and spots..... And I can't budge this flaming connector. Big hands and fingers ain't helping!!!

I struggled too (also very big hands).

Just squeeze those two blue tabs together and ease it off.

Obviously the two blue tabs protruding from the back?  Even with needle nose pliers on them it's absolutely solid and NO give at all!!!

I found it easier to push the tabs down while pulling the connector on to the pipe with one hand and using needle nose in the other IIRC.

Squeeze the exposed parts of the blue tabs together. While doing that, push, pull, wiggle, rotate and prod the black part until black separates from blue.

sorry gw you posted mid posting so my post was for BP.

I have tried all the pulling pushing wiggling my poor sausage fingers can take for a bit. So a bit of rest and a cuppa tea, whilst on laptop.

IF I remain unsuccessful then I'll have another rest - switch the tea for Jack Daniels and hunt the cat down so I can give her a good kicking!!!!
(You do all know that's a joke right)???

I mean pretty much what GW said, but more specifically I pushed the connector on further then pressed the tabs, that seemed to work for me.

I've had the same problem every time I've done it. I found that I had to not only compress the two blue tabs and pull, but push down on both items as the two parts don't line up straight, even though they look like it when connected. The action is a bit like breaking a pencil but away from the underside of the tank - not easy to explain.

Well....... 3 hours later.....and its STILL stuck solid!!!

My fingers tips are so sore now I couldn't even pick my nose if I needed to!!!!!

Luckilly I don't need the bike over the weekend, so I'll give it a good rest, give my fingers a chance to recover and have another crack after the weekend. I very nearly resorted to cutting the bloody pipe off and worrying about it afterwards. As I really hoped to have the air filter fitted and the fuse block fitted by now!!!!

I hope I don't have to resort to the cutting method....BUT IF no joy on Monday its either that or putting it back together and taking to the dealer!!!!! ### ### ### ###

I've never had the tank off my Glee so I may be way off the mark here but on my  previous bike (Moto Guzzi Griso) in order to get the fuel line off, it was easier to disconnect the electrical wires to the fuel pump and then crank the engine on the starter for a few turns which relieved the pressure in the system, allowing the pipe to be disconnected easier.
Just a thought.......

Mine was a bit difficult the first couple of times, but now is quite easy. It'll probably loosen up over time  :thumb:

Pushing the black part in to ease pressure on the blue part is probably the best first step.

Like Clint, I've tried it 'Every Which Way But Loose' - but I will try pushing it in to get it out! Not sure I'll be mentally prepared to try and fail again by tomorrow.... But we'll see!!

Hi
Just a small suggestion to save your fingers, is to wrap a zip-tie around the blue bits to hold them in whilst wiggling everything else.
This has helped me a number of times, and if it gets easier over time, I have not noticed it.
Regards

Where's the fanfare and trumpet smilies??? FINALLY off, phew!! Don't know if it helped with pressure but I did open the filler cap? The cable/zip ties was a brill idea, but a bit of a faff to get it 'seated' without coming off! Anyway, as its peeing down I can proceed with the service and wiring in Sat Nav and spots
However if it's such a bitch to get back on I'm selling the bike!!!!
THANKS blokes REALLY appreciate all the hints and tips.
Ps maybe I ought to try to be more patient..... Or try and get a 'small hand transplant '

You were probably using a lot more finger pressure that needed. A comfortable amount of pressure while wiggling and pushing the black connector was probably sufficient. On the other hand, whoever did the last installation may not have had the relief in the blue part properly centered over the raised part of the metal spigot. You don't need to squeeze the blue part on installation. If the two parts are properly aligned, they will click together as the ramp on the black part will do the work of squeezing the blue part.
