Hi Sasha, the xtre will derestrict 5th and 6th gear at higher revs, giving a bit more top speed, if it were me I would not bother now the ecu is done, you might get another 5 mph at the top end, not much more.

Thank you Wurzel for clearing that for me ... I am happy with the exhaust that I've got and the new ecu the bike is really smooth now...
I've heard something about a restriction in 2nd and 3rd gear but I'm not sure about that :)

I seem to remember someone posting about restriction in the lower gears too, the validity of such I know not.

It would be interesting if the subject was touched on again, and confirmation ascertained, if there is restriction, then an X-TRE set in 4th gear, as mine is, might be viable.

I think I have read something on a German forum that the bikes come restricted in 1 2 gear ... but this was some time ago even before they started to change the ecu... if the new one still has it don't know ..  would love to see a dyno with xtre and without on the new ecu... and see if there is any difference in any gear :)

You would see a difference in 5th and 6th gear, I would imagine, the first three gears I'm not sure, 4th being unrestricted.

It would be an interesting thing to see,as you suggest, and could influence which gear to set the X-TRE to, though 4th seems the favoured one.

Hello folks,

I completely missed this thread until last week when I saw it. I've got a DL1000 with the J00 unit fitted. I fitted the TRE to try and fix some of the low speed issues but didn't realise there was a ECU swap going on to cure it.

People who have had it replaced, what's the magic words required to get the dealer to decide that this is a genuine problem recognised by Suzuki? Is there an authorative contact at Suzuki I can tell them to call who will have full knowledge of this and can talk to them? I purchased mine from Frasers in Gloucester and they're not aware of this issue at all. I've forwarded them links to the various forum threads but I don't think they believe it (they didn't believe me about the battery earth or loom issue either until the DVLA recall).

My dealer was like that to thatbloke. So I wrote to Suzuki uk after sales manager saying I thought the bike was unsafe as it had stalled a few times and we toppled over once. They phoned me in a few days and book it into the dealers for a few checks. Got a new ecu a week later. Bike is smoother now you only need to watch it when its cold for the first few miles. Get writing!

Magic words are: "Stalling from time to time... Dangerous to ride... Stalled once entering the main road putting my life in danger... Will crash sooner or later because of stalling..."

An ECU is waiting for me at my dealership. They will put it in Monday while I wait. (2015 DL1000 44,000 km.)

Hi Tom. Fancy meeting you here. People will ask you to post an introduction so I'll take care of that here.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

Can I just double check exactly how you made contact (where you got the address from)? I tried contacting them through the Suzuki UK online contact form but haven't had a response yet. Maybe I just need to spend next week chasing and being grumpy to the dealer and Suzuki uk on the phone.

Hi.I just got the address of the Suzuki uk web site  its hard to find but its there somewhere.  My mate used to work for Honda and he and my Suzuki dealer said to write a letter not to email. At head of the letter put Suzuki after sales manger (motorcycles)

I wrote to customer services and received a fairly bland reply along lines that dealer would have to examine bike and liaise with technical services. In my letter I had asked them to confirm that a defect had been identified with early models to assist in taking the matter up at dealer level. There was no confirmation that a defect existed and no referral to technical services although they are in same building as customer services.

The problem I have is the dealer is quite scathing of forums such as this for escalating 'non-issues' and is not aware of any ECU defects. I'm therefore not convinced I'll have dealer support or willingness to liaise with technical services.

Just have to await analysis by the dealer, it'd be far better if Suzuki simply took the initiative with a recall programme. They will know the bike serial numbers affected!  I recently did a slow manouvering course and bike was nightmare to control.

I had mine done few weeks ago, took it into Streetbike Halesowen after explaining to Service Department what was happening, they were aware of situation and they dealt with contacting Suzuki and getting a new one fitted.

2WheelDrifter,  just tell the service area the bike has stalled a few times and they can either fix it (replace the ECU) or they can give you a new bike or your money back. I'm sure they'll speak to Suzuki then

It is a bit of a hassle twowwheeldrifter but worth it. I was like you, dealer didn't want to know, I wrote to Suzuki sayin the bike was unsafe, they wrote back and phoned me, I booked bike in, after some checks all was OK so Suzuki approved the fitting of a new ecu. This all took about 2weeks and dealer had the bike the whole time but it was worth it as I can live with the bike now where as before I was for selling up.
