Buzzing Starter Relay
« on: August 21, 2015, 20:37:41 »
This is a little bit of a stretch to make it V-Strom relevant. My logic is that it is an Aeon Cobra 100cc Quad Bike for use at the next V-Strom.co.uk meet   :icon_wink:

Anyway, all was well the last time it was used (probably last year), since then it has been connected to an Optimate. The Battery has a good charge.

This is what is happening. I'm thinking bad earth somewhere?

So far I have looked for obvious poor connections and I have swapped out the buzzing Relay.

This is a parts list  <!-- m -->http://www.slduk.com/spare-parts/cobra-100.html<!-- m -->

Don't panic sports fans, after reminding myself that fools rush in  :shy:  I took a step back from stripping out the loom and started back at the Battery.

A reminder that just because a Battery shows an apparent healthy voltage doesn't mean it will do its job under any load. (it also calls into question the value of leaving a Battery connected to an Optimate longterm).

My scientific demonstration of what happens to a Battery which was showing 12.75 Volts after connecting a low wattage lamp to it.

I was just going to ask you to confirm the battery voltage  :grin:

The Battery voltage was 12.75 right up to load being put on it, I'm guessing a Cell has failed.

I've had one connected for up to 6 months without any problems.
