Just bought my DL1000, 2014
« on: August 21, 2015, 14:37:02 »
Well I bit the bullet & dropped the money on one, had a test ride & loved the bike, the motor does feel very strangled from 6000rpm up, & I hope to sort this out asap, other than that a lovely machine.
I bought an ex demo with a few hundred miles on it, no low rev lurch that I could detect, so one happy bunny am I.

Nice one wurzel, I hope to have one myself very soon. God knows I've bought enough bits to fasten on it... :)

Exhaust is one mod I will be doing John, the Arrow kit sounds interesting to me, I will do some searching for threads here, thank you for the tip. :)

Good luck Paul, & thank you, what bits have you bought if I might ask? :auto-dirtbike:

The stock exhaust really chokes the breathing at higher revs. Replace the can with a free flowing system, get some running in miles underway and then the fun begins!

Thanks RR, I'm looking at exhausts now. :)

Spoilt for choice, I like the Arrow cans, but there are less expensive options too, I suppose you get what you pay for in the end. :)

If I was in the position again I would be looking for a can that's E4 stamped for Europe. But if you ain't planning on touring abroad then UK Road legal it is!

I chose the Arrow as it uses a built in mount rather than the generic strap type. I'd recommend looking at the options in Italy as when I bought mine they were much cheaper than the rest of Europe. And the € to £ exchange rate is better than it has been for years.

IIRC Mivv seemed to be doing some good VFM end cans on ebay, for eample:

Or if a black aluminium Arrow can is what you're after:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-V-STRO ... 5d5c85dc79

bought other things of this seller and they were great.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I do like the look of the Mivv can, I will make a choice in the next day or so. :auto-dirtbike:

I ended up buying the 'Fuel Diablo' end can, easy five minute fit, a little bit more noise than I expected to be honest, but its on, & seems to have freed up the top end of the rev range a bit, next to fit the TRE.

I wonder how many DL1000 owners who have an aftermarket end can have the problems they feel the TRE will sort?

Mine ran fine with the stock end can at low revs, seems OK with the new can, I have just fitted the X Tre, had to cut into the loom by the tank, which had me nervous I must say, anyway, it's done, bike works, set on map 4, I have yet to ride it but I'm up & running.

As posted earlier by someone, the gps plug is an easy reach from under the right hand tank side panel, saved a lot of time, so thanks for that tip. :thumb:

Got choice with Diablo! I've modified the baffle in mine to reduce the noise a little by extending the inner pipe  in the baffle and welding a cap so the pipe isn't directly open, still sounds nice, but without the boom unless you give the throttle a good turn ;) If you want I can do the same for you?

Thank you Roadrocket, I must say I quite like the sound of the pipe, but a big thanks for the offer all the same. :)

It is nice to be heard by motorists, without being so loud as to cause a nuisance.

I am impressed by the reasonable price of the pipe, & good build quality, it is a straightforward bit of kit, & fitted nicely, giving the bike a bit of character when on the throttle, yet still not intruding at motorway pace too much, I would imagine it too much with the baffle removed though!

After a few hundred miles I am starting to love the bike, great for mile munching in comfort, great for back lane scratching, & carries a passenger in a composed way, still maintaining nimble handling in the twisty bits, aunt Sally loves it & that's good enough for me.

They're great aren't they just! I've clocked up nearly 8000 miles in my first year, I just want to ride it lol.  Ride safe and we might just meet on one of the planned events  :thumb:
