The cost of parts
« on: August 10, 2015, 12:57:55 »
So I realised during my last brake service that the rear caliper "Insulator ( 6913206G00)" is broken and needs to be replaced. I have checked places like wemoto and MSP Motorcyel spare parts - but does this thing really cost between 12-14 quid each? FFS it's just a sliver of asbestos sheet!

There are a lot of costs involved with providing parts besides the cost of making them. They have to be warehoused, handled, inventoried and shipped. The people doing all that have to be paid and storage facilities have to be bought, maintained, insured and all that involves taxes and permits.

If you think Suzuki parts are expensive, try a BMW.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I do agree with greywolf, about costs , BUT
just had to order a rubber grommit, which fits on one of the tank panels, and holds down the instrument surround, I searched e bay and could not find either a Suzuki one or any other the same size, had to order from Fowlers, they call it a CUSHION.

£2.99, for a small rubber grommit !!!!!!! :angry-tappingfoot:

+1 for what greywolf said.

If it was four pence it would not be worthwhile selling it and then no one could buy it.

Some on-line businesses hold no stock, have very little running costs but merely organise transport from warehouse to delivery address. My local dealer has at least 15 staff who need to be paid every month even in the winter when sales are low.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

The time on the phone to you Jodrest, plus the time of the packing and dispatching person, the materials and the postage all adds up. I find it hard to believe anything gets posted to you for much less than that.

sorry, I beg to differ.
I always look for items on e bay that are free postage, but the same price excluding postage from somewhere else.
