Some more questions 4 months in....650 2012
« on: July 27, 2015, 19:47:46 »
Hi,

1) Can anyone recommend a rear hugger? Is £90 about right as a price?

2) The exhaust sometimes pops when going from idle rev to accelerate. It only happens very occasionally and its like a slight timing/misfire issue. Bike has 6k on clock and has full service history. I was going service it myself very soon as I'm wondering if its a spark plug/gap issue. Anyone else had this?

3) This is one for tall riders.....on riding back from Southport in the pi$$ing rain this weekend I've discovered the limits of my Gore Tex trousers and Gore Tex boots in that water runs down the trousers into the boots. Brilliant. Because I'm so tall (6 foot 9) the trousers pull up just above the boot lip. I bought the longest pants and boots I could find. So the question is....is there any product that anyone knows of that covers the gap between the boot and trouser? I have some walking gaters but they just won't stretch around the boot enough. Cling film may be my only hope.... :shy:

4) Does anyone wear a chest protector?

I got the Givi hugger which works well and retains the original chain guard.
There are some over leggings which could bridge the gap. They were popular years ago in bike shops but you will probably find something similar in walking or cycling stores these days

I bought some boot covers from aldi when they were on special offer.  New boot lasted 1h50mins in before letting water through.  Use covers now if it's liable to rain. Not a drop through.

Where cover wraps around leg is above the height of the boot so any water running down the  trouser leg would the run onto the cover.

I use the 2 hard chicken fillets that fit into my Alpinestars jacket. I bought them pretty much because they were available & reasonably cheap.
They also go between my phone & my squishy bits so should lessen the chance of it becoming part of me in the event of a handlebar meeting crash.

I had the same "tall problem" Leky. I ended up with a massive waist per of trousers so they hung a bit lower instead of going round bits of arse that I hadn't got.

I wear a chest protector if I'm going on fast roads. I've noticed that the more protective gear I wear (full leathers with heavy pads) the harder I ride. When I've got my Kevlar jeans on I'm more careful. No point wearing a chest protector and riding like a loony I suppose
When it's really wet the rain always seems to get in somewhere. Motorcycling is best in the dry I've realised over the years! Best to kit out like bike police I suppose - they have to ride in all weathers.
