Speed Sensor

Does anyone know the exact location easiest method of accessing and wire colours for signal, ground and power?

Signal is pink/white, ground(earth) is black/white, power is white/green. There are three connectors between the fairing and main frame. Each one carries one of the wires. P/W and B/W are probably easier to access at the ECU. W/G is available off the rear brake switch coming up to the rear of the tank.

Thank you for that information. I will have a look and see what I can find.

I can see a pink and white wire coming from the ECU but I can't see it under the side panels going down to the engine casings. I would like to see where it goes to before snipping it to make sure.  Do you have any more advice as to where the speed signal is taken from?

The P/W speed signal is taken from the ECU and run straight to a connector in the fairing. Then it goes directly to the instrument cluster. There is no speedo sensor on the Veek. The ECU takes the signals in from the ABS wheel sensors to figure the speed and sends the speed signal out with the P/W wire.

OK that's makes sense, thanks. Which fairing panel is it behind? The bikes right side where the main loom runs? Might have overlooked it when fitting the TRE.

I think I will re-open the loom where I spliced in the X-TRE and get the PinkWhite wore there. You seem very knowledgable so I will trust this is the correct wire. Just out of interest where is the source of your information?

I have a wiring diagram. It helps to know the P/W wire is the speedo signal wire color on all V-Stroms.

See http://www.stromtrooper.com/dl1000a-201 ... dodrd.html for the SpeedoDRD info from HealTech. It has four wires, red, white, blue and black. Red goes to a white/green wire or a brown wire. White goes to the ECU side of the cut pink/white wire and blue goes to the remaining pink/white wire. Black goes to a black/white wire.

Perfect. I have seen the pink/white wire where I spliced in for the X-TRE so I will just intake it and do it there to keep all the modifications to the loom in the same location.

Thanks for the help.

That information kind of scared me so I took another look at he wiring diagram. There are two P/W wires coming from the ECU. The one from the smaller of the two connectors goes to the speedo. The one from the larger of the two connectors goes to the TPS. Make sure you have the correct wire.

Ah OK. I will see what I can do and try and identify them so I get the right one.
Thanks

All done.  :)

Good job you mentioned two wires as there is indeed 2 in the loom.  Fortunately I was able to see the wire coming from the ECM connector and could pull the wire where I opened up the loom and identify which one was which.  I have now fully installed and tested the system and the speedo still works which is the main thing.  I will go about calibrating the system next time I am out on a straight road with the GPS.  I think I will start with -5% and see how I get on from there.  :)

Thanks for the help and information.  It helped a lot.

Don't just keep guessing. Compare the GPS to the Speedometer. Just plug in those two values at http://www.12oclocklabs.com/sdrd_calc.htm and it will give you the proper correction figure.

Thanks for the help and information.  It helped a lot.

Will be interesting to see how you go.

I tagged all my indicated speeds (in 10kph increments) by GPS and couldn't get to a %age figure I thought was accurate.
My conclusion was that it was best for me to just take 7 kph from any indicated speed from 80kph to 120kph to get my true speed.

Since the difference is a percentage, that's too wide a range for real accuracy. The faster you go, the more mph change is required. Using the instructions that came with the kit, I used Sat Nav speeds and corresponding speedometer speeds and the instructions on how to use them and found a -7.2% correction factor to be appropriate. The Speedo on my Glee now matches the Sat Nav throughout the range.

I actually came up with a figure of 6.2% as my speedo was out by 4mph at 60mph according to my GPS. I followed the instructions with the kit and also had a browse on the heal tech website where they have a calculations page.
