Some good little tips there, I might copy the rubber ideas to stop salt crap going on the engine!  :fix:

No issues with it blocking air flow to the oil cooler or anything?

The oil cooler is watercooled on the glee :)
I can't envisage cooling ( lack of) in general being an issue in the uk over winter.
I've done this to several bikes in the past without issue, sometimes blocking off 1/3 - 1/2 the rad too :)

Sh!t kits R us revisited!

The access to the number plate light (now modified into a 2nd rear side light)....

The access to the number plate light bolts allows salt & crap to get thrown up to the inside of the rear light and it's only a matter of time before the nuts themselves sieze up.
Time for some protection!

And fitted

Some nice tips there bet you saved a few pounds with your own kits, love the straps for holding kit on the bike seat & rear light mod.  :thumb:

Some truly remarkable solutions. Just read this thread from start to finish. Brilliant. Looks like I'll be doing some of these over the next few weeks.

Thank you for the kind words all.
As you can see, no expense spared!
Cheap but effective (well I am from Yorkshire!)

I ran out of the black plastic that originated from a holdall base, I looked all over for a sheet of suitable replacement (I get through quite a bit of it....), the replacement was found at B&Q in a product called rubble mate, a stiff flexible sheet that holds plastic bags - on sale at £4 for a great big sheet that will last years.

It's ideal.
Stiff, yet flexible but not brittle (doesn't crack) and will hold shape when bent, easily drilled and cut with scissors, making it easy to work with.

I might buy some more & cut it into 2'x2' pieces then sell it to you lot for, errr £4 a sheet

As I popped into the garage earlier, I noticed one nice simple little mod that has been probably the most beneficial for me in day to day riding, so thought I'd post it up.

The map pockets on tank bags are (generally) pathetically small, made even worse by having an opening that is narrower than the widest part aggggh.
It's infuriating don't you think...
Even worse when it's chucking it down as you're trying to ram the soggy wet, now mushy paper back into place!

Anyway, you can get a decent A4+ sized walkers map pouch with full width velcro opening for a few pounds, add a few bits of adhesive velcro & stick said pouch onto the tank bag map pocket.
Bingo.
It's been on my Givi Tanklock for most of the year and in some decent downpours & is still firmly attached, although I attach the neck string around the bag just in case they wanted to part company.

All done for about £3.

I know sat navs are taking over but you can't beat a proper map to see where you are in relation to everything else

Hi Hondaman

When we got 'wheely bins' a few years ago, I had a couple of plastic rubbish bins to dispose of, so instead of putting them into the 'recycling wheely bin, I cut them up and used them over the years for protecting many parts of the Glee, including a rear shock protector and hand guards/mudguard extenders.

Cheers

I have had a couple of members message me re Rubblemate in B&Q, it seems B&Q no longer stock it (probably why mine was on sale) however, all is not lost as Screwfix sell it at £9.99.

Hope this helps

Here we go again....

While I had the clocks off to wire in a voltmeter...

I noticed there was a tiny bit of green corrosion both on the connector for the clocks & on a couple of the pins behind the clocks, not great as I know the rubber boot was fitted properly and the bike is leisure use only - not commuted.

Anyway, cleaned the bit of corrosion, protected the terminals from any further corrosion and figured some sort of protector is in order.
Now, I'm assuming water spray is passing in the gap between the headlight & fairing or wicking down from the clock fitting bolt drain holes, which rather foolishly are placed right above the clocks, one of which is right above the (non waterproof) connector. Durrr

1 chopped up old innertube later and this is the beautiful result.....

I don't mind doing preventitive maintenance like this but just imagine the headache of buying a 5yr old, year round commuted bike, owned by someone who 'just rides it'
Everything electrical would be utterly f*cked and that's a big and annoying shame to future owners of these otherwise fine bikes.

Anyway, ride on

Suzuki ought to be ashamed of using non-waterproof connections on their electrics.

After my electrical issues last summer I went through every electrical connection I could find and ACF-50'd the lot and added ACF50 corrosion block to them too.

Would WD 40 offer the same protection do you think ?

No, although it may do a bit.
They got a light spray of wd40 last time I was in there, this time a dab up with my favourite mix of waxoil & wd40.

Be careful, the pcb is visible (open) at the back of the clocks (yeah, great idea on a motorbike ffs...) and anything sprayed into the female/clock part of the connector will run down the pcb.
