Fuel/Mileage question
« on: June 09, 2015, 20:19:22 »
Just used up my first brimmed full tank - got 230 miles before the last bar started flashing. The manual says only 2 something litres left. Anyone know approx how many more miles before she is empty? Any thoughts on this one.

In round terms you had 10% of the tank capacity left so all things being equal you'd get another 23 miles. Hopefully  :thumb:

Last bar starts to flash at 2.5 litres left though I think.

How many litres to fill up?

I had my first fill today 220 miles with 2 bars showing, took 15.2l to brim which is 65mph so pretty happy.

never ever got more than 20l in the 22l tank in the old Wee. and that was after 15 miles running with the last bar flashing.

I'm willing to give it a go, but owning a Honda it's not going to help anyone here  :neen:

trick it to carry more fuel

Carrying fuel is certainly a bonus, I've run a few bikes dry in the past - deliberately & otherwise....
It's always nice to know how far you can go once 'empty'
Not sure on the wisdom of running an fi bike empty though :/

Not too much of an issue, but not something to be done on bikes like the Strom where the fuel pump resides inside the tank and relies on the fuel volume to cool it.
doing it once won't be too bad, but regular running the tank low should be avoided.

My Varadero has an external fuel pump so no issues with over heating it.

Must say I'm more than happy to get 230 - my last bike was a Daytona and I got 130....on a good day   Now I've seen what I can get, I'll be more sensible and refill when it's down to 1 bar.

Doesn't the fuel pump icon flash when there is around 1 gallon left?
At 15.2l I mush have been close to that but still had 2 bars showing???
Mind, I always fully brim when filling.
If there was 1 gal left, it would give a theoretical range of 280 miles :)

Zero trip 1 when you fill up. When the fuel pump icon starts flashing you've got 4.5l, or roughly a gallon. Your trip 1 average mpg figure is the number of miles you have left in the tank. When the last bar goes, you've got half of the mpg figure. (Although you actually have a tiny bit more than that).

When motorway commuting traffic keeps my speed down to 50-70 I'm getting 72mpg, or a theoretical 316 miles to the tank. As the return journey is somewhat brisker, my tank range is 'only' 280ish. Temperature makes a big difference. In the winter I only get 60mpg/263miles.

Will the fuel pump really fry itself if I often run the fuel down to very low?
How much does it stick out of the fuel level within the tank?
Is the fuel pump a weak area to watch out for?
Should I always fill up as soon as the pump symbol starts to flash?

Had my Glee for over a year now and still really pleased with it's capabilities.

I use to regularly get 22.5 litres in.
Once I got 24.8 litres in and I got the to check the pump, apparently the pump was fine but when I stated I had a maximum capacity of 22 litres and it wasn't overflowing.  I asked to see the report which had mysterious disappeared. I asked for a copy to be requested from the testers.
It came back with a newer date on which they couldn't explain.
Life is short - You have to enjoy it on a Wee-Strom!
