Ouch!! Clutch knackered
« on: March 23, 2015, 13:15:45 »
Following my previous post about the clutch slipping....

Just taken it to BikeWorx in Exeter, who've stripped it down to check what's happened. Completely burnt out - need all new plates, springs, etc. £370.

Ouch!!! I won't be doing much in the way of slow speed manoevring practice any time soon.

Nor will I be telling Mrs Petstep about the bill....

Ouch.

Just for future reference, parts aren't more than £100, and its a reasonably simple job.

(not to rub it in)

I hope I'm not being taken for a ride  - I don't think so, they're good blokes.

Yes,  v tempted to do the work myself. But the timing's not good - lots of family and work demands so I just don't have a spare day :-(.  So it's a case of paying someone else or losing my sanity.

Does seem a tad expensive. Did the clutch on my mates bike in 2 or 3 hours and I'd never done one before.

I don't think they're taking the Mick too much. Genuine Suzuki parts, put a couple hours labour probably isn't far off that.

At least you have your bike back :)

Thanks MJC - that's reassuring. They are using Suzuki parts.

I think the average dealership charges c. £50 + VAT per hour for labour.  An independent garage may be cheaper.

Well folks,  £371.

About £150 on parts - steel and friction plates, springs, oil,  gasket. 3 hrs labour at £47/hr. Plus VAT.

But it has to be said, gear shifting is sweeter than ever.

But I won't be doing that again!
