CHEC Message after sparkplugs change

hello people,
that's why I love mondays sooooo much.

a friend and me replaced the sparkplugs this week end, as according to the manual I bought the exact model the bike needs. the operation went very well and very quick, we both took a ride on the beast eerything okay execpt a bunch lot of error code showing who disapeared by themselves a bit after...

now, this morning, I wanted to start it. clutch lever IN, cauze my basket is dead... aaaaand nothing. I tried to push the start engine button several times, and miracle ! it started....

I made like 35meter switched off the engine. I Got to need something in the house, going back and there... nothing more than a dead cold vstrom :(

CHEC Message is on the dash. the fuel pump looks okay, I don't ear the "ZZZZZIIII" sound like every time but I can ear it working in the tank. (or that sounds comes from the oil pump I don't know)

acccording to the forum it can be the side stand switch but how the hell did she started like 3min ago ?
also referring to the forum it could be the ignition fuse that blown. how do I check that ? I have a little box under the seat next to the battery where fuses are, is it one of them ?

btw my though is I haven't tighten enough the spark plugs but again how did she start and ran then ?
plus I can feel the idle speed is lower than before...

The kill switch and side stand switch are the usual culprits when a CHEC is shown. It can be the ignition fuse too. In is in the box with the other fuses and there is a label in the box showing fuse functions. The fuel pump will not run if a CHEC is generated unless the oddest cause of a CHEC is present. That would be a bad connection between the ECM and the display. In that case, the ECM "knows" the safety switch positions are okay but the okay message it sends to the display doesn't get through.

she started a bit after I posted this message. I'll check the fuse box and wire to the display later
indeed the fuel pump started after some tries, chec disapeared showing me the mileage.


and when you say the kill switch is that the 2 connector that comes under the right lever ?
I disconnected that and the bike started.

The 2 wire connection switch under the right lever is the brake light switch. That has zero to do with being able to start the bike. The left side similar switch is the clutch lever switch. That will prevent the starter motor from turning if nor connected and working properly but will not cause a CHEC to be displayed. It sounds like you have a bad connection someplace else that sometimes makes and sometimes doesn't.

yes, I did put my hand behind the radiator where we potentially made a wiring mistake. shaked all that stuff and that's it. the bike started like usual after it. I'll take a closer look this week end for sure. rest is OK

I can ask the local mecanics but tthey are always busy with their stuff ... I guess they fed up with newbz asking them

I probably should have included the possibility of poor connections in the wiring to the kill switch or side stand switch too. That will have the same effect as a bad switch or the switch in the wrong position.
