They are clueless. They don't know what's wrong with it hence the checking of everything.

So many dealers just replace parts willy nilly. They have no clue as to cause and effect.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I'm surprised they haven't tried a new loom yet.

Rule #1 of electrical problems, change the easiest bit first

Rule #2, if that doesn't work, do some diagnostic work.

Wasn't there another post on the forum about chaffing on unprotected coil wire?

So it wasn't the ECU so they're going to test every single individual wire in the loom. They won't change it because Suzuki won't let them.

But I wonder if Suzuki will pay the extra for doing the loom checks compared to the cost of a new loom?

I had a R1100GS and they were reowned for having a tie wrap that didn't allow the leads going into the ignition switch etc, which caused them to fail over time as the cables couldn't flex enough. When I bought mine, I swapped the lead straight away, and I could see it starting to fail.

Whole loom checked, no luck.

Hooked up to diag on Friday, revving the nuts off it to see if they can replicate the results and get an error code.

What a PITA. If I was a betting person I'd bet it won't do it anymore as they've disturbed the loom, disconnected and re-connected loads of connectors, so it may not do it again.

It still does it on test rides. Just not on the bench :/

They tried running it on a dyno, so at least the wheels are turning?

This will not solve your problem..

An electrical issue like this will not throw up any faults on any diagnostic machine available today..neither will any meter checks. these kind of issues are a nightmare for any machanic (trust me I know).

OK, this issue which is on the ignition part of the loom and showing "check" . the only switches that show up check are the kill switch / side stand switch and clutch switch I think ..?  I would start by checking all of these and the wires that feed them.

It shows chec because the ignition fuse blows.

Upon changing the ignition fuse, the bike runs fine.

I'm pretty sure that any competent mechanic, such as those employed by this garage, would have checked those wires without a second thought.

The mechanics have been in contact with Suzuki's tech support team throughout the duration of my bikes time in the garage. If anybody should know what is wrong with it, it's the people who built the bloody thing.

The trouble is, there is nigh on bugger all left to check. Not a single broken wire or faulty piece of hardware has been found.

I will be giving them until the second week of October to fix it. At that point, if they still have yet to find an issue, I will be returning the bike for its current market value.

Then I'll probably buy a Veek.

All the switches I've described rely on this fuse and if water is getting in causing a dead short surely they have the means to swap out parts in order to fix the problem ..?

Water is not conductive enough to blow a fuse. A live wire has to be contacting an earth wire or the frame. Unless they unwrap the loom, the former will not be visible.

So they unwrapped the entire bike's electronics and have found that the "back half" of the loom shows signs of substantial corrosion.

It's now back together and I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Suzuki won't foot the bill but the garage have sorted out a deal with me.
