Upgrading my DL650 the DL1000, but forwhat PRICE???
« on: September 06, 2014, 13:31:05 »
I've took a test drive of DL1000 a couple of weeks ago and have since been into two dealerships to price up the DL1000 and I wanted to know what you think I should be paying for it.
The two deals I've had so far are for brand new DL1000's. First one no money off the RRP at all so 9999 squid only good thing is they will part ex my DL650 for 5k.
Second one is offering brand new bike with an adventure kit, the 999 pound one for a total price of 9K 2K off the RRP.
Am I getting good deals here or is there still room for the price to come down.
Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome  :welcome2:

As you're part ex-ing a bike, it's the cost to change that matters really, first option is effectively a £5k cost to change, but as you don't tell us how much they'll give you for your bike against the £2k off one, how can we tell what is best?

Sorry silly me, the second place is giving me 3.5k for my bike which gives me a better deal overall as the balance is 5.5k to pay but includes a grand more stuff included in the bike. Or I'm getting the 1k accessories effectively for 500 quid.
What I was after was an idea of what people have been paying across the country on their DL1000 to see what price ranges are available.
Just to let everyone know there are alot of dealers at the moment that have been given free adventure kits for the DL1000 and are passing that sale onto customers, or so they say.

Re the accessories, panniers that have hardly any capacity, especially if you're two up is the bulk of the £1k so factoring in pricing up some alternatives, I'd take the second bike, and ask for the £1k off instead of the accessories, and then see if they'll offer any discount on some other bits and pieces.

Keeping an eye out on prices myself and there seems to be some big variations in advertised prices.

BTW the £9999 price includes the Adventure pack according to the Suzuki site.

£5k trade in seems a fairly generous figure as you can get a pre-reg 650 for £5245 here: http://cupar.newsweaver.co.uk/Newslette ... t=17215974 which I'll guess is a 63 registration. Doesn't have the accessories yours has, but is newer and no miles on it ..... As has been suggested, have a look at the ebay completed listings for an idea of actual sale prices.

Take with one hand and give with another so generous trade in = pay full price for the new bike. Cheapest ebay bike with the Adventure pack at the moment is this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-DL1000 ... 2335f7fca2 so a bit less than the RRP!

This similar one to yours sold for £4.5k

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2013-Suzuki-D ... 19ee8d03ca

Note that was a private auction sale, dealers would sell it for much more.

There are brand new veeks on ebay for £8.5k, not sure if that's with adventure pack or not.

So cost to change, if you do it yourself is £4k.

If you can't do without a bike while you sell your old one and order the new one you will need to finance the £4.5k you are expecting to get for your old bike. Is the convenience of part-exchanging with the dealer worth £1000 to you, because that is what it is effectively costing you with their current offers.

Note that most finance deals these days allow you to pay additional payments with no charge, so you could buy the Veek on Suzuki finance, then pay it off early when you sell your DL650.

Go back to them and tell them your offer is your bike and £4000 for a brand new Veek (or £4500 if it has the adventure pack and you want the pack), and if they are not prepared to get close to that, then consider sorting it out yourself.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

The fact you have time to look here and think about the deal means you should follow Frez advice and tell them what deal you want and leave your phone number and walk away, no discussion or chat, that's what you will pay if they can do it!

Great advice sofar blokes.I'm going to do some more shopping around and bargaining and ill keep you all posted on my switch.
For the time being after I told them that their deal was rubbish they offered me a pre reg 2014 plate for the same price 9K with alot of mostly useless overpriced Suzuki accessories, ill let you blokes be the judge of the deal.

"The red Suzuki V Strom 1000 in the show has covered just 438 miles and as the following extra’s fitted, Top box £475, Side cases £725, Centre stand £185, Engine bars £195, Hand guards £50,Spot lamps £495, Heated grips £180, Wheel stickers £40, V strom decal kit £35 (stickers on side panels), Tank pad £20, Tank bag fixing £27, Belly pan £150,
So roughly £2500 worth of extra’s we will also carry out the first service on the bike before you take delivery and the bike comes with all the keys and books."

If that was with the trade in price I would have taken it. But I like shiny things so the spots sold it to me.

I saw the new 1000 in the flesh for the first time on Saturday at Cupar Suzuki, Fife. They're doing the Adventure for £9,500 with the 3 years  zero percent interest. They also have a demo bike - unlike some dealers! I bought my DL650 X from them and they couldn't be more helpful.

You've got me worried now Michelle_B.
I've just agreed to a balance exchange of 5.3k for my DL650 on a new white DL1000, I've still time to back out, but hes thrown in the top box and centre stand as well as the adventure kit which is standard as I use the top box and centre stand more than anything, plus hes not removing the LED indicators its got on, not that I need them over normal ones.
Am I making a mistake Michelle_B, should I definitely wait another year. My 650 will be worth peanuts by then. Since trying the 1000 my little 650 has felt so insignificant and I now see how it struggles to pull someone of my size and weight.
My other considerations are that my1 year old bike is already showing tyre wear and will need to start having work done to it within the next 1000 miles.

Don't rely on one persons view (particularly mine), research, test ride, ride again, then ride it again then consult the only person that matters..

I have delayed a long time and should have bought a new DL1000 by now. But, if I was in your position I would be happy I have come to an informed decision and done a deal . Ask the shop to set the Bike up for you as regard your weight/suspension and throttle cable slack and anything you have heard from this great forum, they should be pleased to do it and if they do well put it on the forum Or show them the forum so they understand your concerns. Good luck, please post your experience as my purchase has now been slowed down by a broken ankle ( don't ask)
