Easy mod for hydraulic clutch lever distance
« on: September 06, 2014, 09:09:51 »
Got my new Vee2 yesterday and first thing I noticed is having biting point of clutch lever too far away from the bars (grip), even in settings 4. It is bad for me as on my previous bikes I always had biting point closer then other people. But those were cable clutches. Now I'm in trouble...
But, just found on other forum, shortening push rod between lever and master cylinder of the clutch, something between 2 and 4 mm, would bring my biting poin exactly where I want it. Seems like it's 15 min job from start to end and only thing to be removed is clutch lever itself.
I'll give it a go and post back here.

Consider that if the fluid and hose gets old it will 'give' more and if you set it so the lever is too close to the bar your clutch might not disengage properly at full pull. If you find this is the case, it's an indication to put fresh fluid in (and/or possibly put a better hose on.)

Modified this morning, took me half an hour as push rod is hard to cut.
Took 3mm of its lenght and now I have lever on position 4 again but clutch is biting exactly where I want it to.
PERFECT !!

I'm not worried about push rod as it costs €5 to replace.

Found this thread last week and have just shortened the clutch push-rod on my bike by 2mm (to start with )

Much better finger extension and bite point is still OK.

Me likes free fix's

The untouched lever itself - no
The distance from the bar where the clutch starts to bite - yes.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Had a 650  for two years, clutch bite OK. Changed to a 1000 on 65 plate last week and do not like the clutch biting point. As you say it is too far away. Just gone onto forum and spotted this thread. Will do mod tomorrow.  Thanks blokes. Have fitted hugger and lowered suspension in last week. Powerbronze hugger and Lustleigh Racing lowering kit. Both went on fine, but boy were those suspension bolts Tight!
