2 weeks on a BMW GSA
« on: August 25, 2014, 15:28:24 »
Just spent 2 weeks on a borrowed BMW GSA touring Germany I took the GS as think my Veek isn't physically big enough for 2 up with luggage for 2 weeks. I'm 12 stone and the wife 11 stone there's no difference with the motor but comfort 2 up long distance isn't good. First time I've ridden a GSA and after 2300 miles I've got to say its much more comfy than my Veek loads more room for both rider and pillon.

Do you still feel the Veek was the right buy or was the BMW just the bike for that job?

I feel the Veek is brilliant solo but as my bikes are used 2 up 80% of the time including 70 mile commute down the A1 each day all year I have to admit I think the GS is better I know some people have trouble with the fuelling which I don't but the GS is much smoother at low revs but and it's a big but the BMW is £3000 more with heated grips and centre stand which makes it £2500 more if you ad them to the Veek. The missis is pushing hard for a change as she hates it on the back of the Veek. We had a 04 DL650 for years and that was mega comfy for both of us.

Wish my missus would tell me to buy a new bike.

Do you think you'll swap?

Got the answer...sell the Veek and buy a Vee....same comfort as your '04 Wee but power of the Vee for two up use.

Best of all, a low miles '08 would set you back a lot less than the Veek and give you pennies for another holiday.

My Mrs gave me £10k in May to get another bike for two up use - on the strict proviso that I kept my Vee as well. So I bought a Pan for our two up trips. Bloody women!!!  lol

Wow, is that view shared by other owners? If it is then where does the Veek fit, if it isn't a capable tourer, we know it isn't a Sports Bike, it isn't designed to go off road so what is it?

I've got a Glee. We sat on a Veek at the NEC - wife said "Blimey, less room than what we've got."
Cannot think of a single reason to swap.

Glee has just enough power two up, the Veek has sufficient  :thumb:

I've looked at the Veek and my first thoughts were that there wasn't much room for two up riding for which I do 90% of the time . As said before you should get a Vee, does everything I need with ample power to cope with anything I throw at it, even fully loaded .

depends what you want to do .... but its a bit rubbish to have enough power for two-up, but not enough room (unless you are both off to audition for a parts in Snow White, of course.)

I work for the AA, it's against company policy to buy a BMW, we're not allowed to monopolise the service. So I bought the Veek :neen:
If you think you can, or you think you can't, either way; you're right.

 lol

Bob, man, if you find the Veek cramped 80% of the time, then get yourself a GSA - all your commutes will be more comfy, especially if a quarter of them are in the AA vans cabin! ;-)

I don't take pillions very often, wife not interested in bikes, so my Veek suits me absolutely down to the ground, especially after my remap. Plenty of room for me, loads of torque to play with, and the money I saved not buying a BMW or a KTM is paying for the remap, a pair of tyres, 4 weeks in Spain, and a great big GRIN. And I still have cash in hand.

Your mileage may vary.

Tim (and anyone else) is it possible to get more details about the remap and put them up here? Also, maybe summarise what other adjustments have been done to your bike (throttle cables; TPS etc) It's about time we started collating the bits and bobs of info ...
