The whole thing is made more incredible by the vendors' reaction, as if wilfully damaging the item for transit purposes is totally acceptable. They're obviously not motorcyclists.

Good job they don't sell antiques!  "...here is your Ming vase. Yes, we've smashed it up so that it will fit in this small box for easy  transportation..."

After pointing them to this thread (and AdventureBikers) and telling them that their details will also be included on Facetwit they sent this;

Hello Thanks for your email. We would be happy to replace or refund your item. However, to do this we need to get the item you received back to us. We would like to organise a collection for the item so that you do not have to pay anything to return the item. The item is also quite heavy/valuable so this will ensure it gets back to us safely. Please could you advise some suitable dates when someone will be available to give the parcel to our courier? It needs to be a weekday and cannot be today. Kind Regards Emma"

I'm not sure how valuable it is with a fecking hole drilled through the bottom   :haha:

Aside from the hole, does the box seem decent? Just wondering if they're knackering a good product through stupidity?

It's definitely worth £29. Unfortunately they say that they have drilled all of their stock in the same way

Didn't the rubber seal around the lid give them a massive clue?

On the plus side, that extra bolt will make sure it all stays safe and secure when it is shipped back to them.

if you look closely in the bottom of the lid, either side of the catch mechanisim, there are another 2 small holes
these are so you can permanently attach the box to the carrier plate, anyway I have attached the universal plate and the top box onto my bike today and to be honest its not a bad bit of kit,had to use some shorter length bolts
but it seems sturdy enough,I am now thinking about putting a brake light behind the reflector which can be unplugged when I remove the top box

I told the supplier I wanted a refund, initially they tried offering me a tenner compensation, then they tried saying that the hole was by design (theirs) and therefore distance selling laws didn't apply  lol

Only when I pointed them here and to AdventureBikers.net did they all of a sudden offer to collect the box at their cost. Some of the email exchanges may amuse you

Hello

We noticed you recently left bad feedback and wondered if there is any way we can help resolve the problem for you please? We can offer a range of solutions such as a refund, money off, replacement, alternative item etc.

We want to ensure all our customers are happy so please let us know how we can help you with this and avoid this problem happening again.

Kind Regards

Lissie.

Let me see.

1. You could have not mutilated the item you sent to me by drilling a hole in it rendering it useless.
2. When challenged on this you could have not made matters worse by suggesting the hole was by design and therefore distance selling laws didn't apply
3. You could have not tried to fob me off with a tenner
4. You could have acted much quicker resolving the problem, not make me raise a case and make me force your hand in collecting the item
5. You could have saved me the time of posting your contact details and details of this case on numerous Motorbike Forums.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry you are not happy with the way this was handled when you have noted that there is a hole in the base of the box.

This holes purpose is to allow a bolt and nut to hold the base plate in place in transit. Without this, the base plate jumps and damages the lock rendering the box useless. Did you replace the bolt and nut after removing the base plate from the inside of the top box? This does fill the hole again, making the box water tight enough for riding.

I can see we have chosen to refund in full through the case which you opened for this item, and we did not ask for a return of the box in doing so.

I will now close this matter and we will not contact you again.

Kind Regards

Lissie

You can't be serious?

1. All you need to do is wrap the mounting Plate in Bubble wrap, not mutilate the Top Box - Do you honestly think ANY other supplier does this?
2. Yes you refunded me AFTER you collected the Top Box from me, you haven't done me any favours.

Hilarious.

My guess is they got a job lot of cheap boxes from China that already had the bolt through them and that is one of the reasons they got them so cheap.

I think we should try and think up how they could sell it as a positive.

e.g. on an animal cruelty front by allowing spiders a way out.

It's obviously a thoughtful drain hole for all the water that now collects inside it.

I love this..

Did you replace the bolt and nut after removing the base plate from the inside of the top box? This does fill the hole again, making the box water tight enough for riding.

That bolt was about 3 inches long  lol

Have to say, it's worth £29,99 just for the comedy value alone. I might get myself one.

I've linked to this thread.

http://www.aosom.co.uk/homcom-top-box-motorcycle-rear-luggage-45l/d-1111.html I had one of them on my last bike. No issues with it and it didn't come with a hole, I had to add my own to feed power in to it.
