Michelle you have answered your own question. Take it back its under warranty and you will cause damage if you continue.

 :)
Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow.

I found the key on my 650 seemed to go in better with the 'S' facing me. The same seems to be true on my 1000 too.

Warranty fix is the best bet for you Michelle.

For anyone with an older bike, I fixed mine with a little bit of the Wurths Dry Chain Lube I was using at the time. It's been faultless since.

A locksmith friend once told me WD40 was bad for locks as it leaves a residue that eventually clogs the mechanism, he gave me a tin of graphite spray that lubes the lock without clogging.

Having problems with my older 650 with the steering lock sticking, tried WD40 but will give the dry chain lube a go next.  :thumb:

Did used to have an old Gixxer with lock issues, it was almost like being a master lock-picker, you had to put the key in, jiggle it a specific way to get the lock off then jiggle it another way to start up?!  No worries about leaving the keys in and anyone getting the lock off and the bike started.

took mine back under G'tee just after crimbo because of the same problem ...... if they decide to change your lock make sure they put the same tumblers in the new lock or you will need 2 keys .... one for the ignition and one for the seat.

Just my tuppence  :thumb:

If a key works better on one side than the other, the key is cut badly. I would want a key, especially an expensive one with an immobiliser chip, to be replaced under warranty if it didn't work equally well on both sides.

I can be riding along and pull the key out and the bike stays running... great fun. One mate had to clip the key to the bars as a big bump would make it fall out of his ninja.
Sounds like a bent wafer or something in the barrel. If its under warranty- take it back it the dealers problem let them fix it.

As said above WD40 is bad for locks. The best for locks in Graphite Lube. You can buy it from Maplin for £3 for a small tube. It will take a few good squirts to get rid of the crap WD40 leaves behind but it should work.

Best bet is squirt with Graphite lube.
Keep turning from left to right
Squirt some more
Repeat until key works fine.

Cheers

Bought easing oil (containiong graphite). Two squirts overnight, and played with key for a while, has done the trick.

Doesn't break the Children, Animals or Politics Guidelines as far as I can see Mr Rat.
