What's filled you with joy lately?
« on: July 24, 2014, 10:46:29 »
The Moaning Old Git Thread is one of my favourites on this illustrious site. And I know exactly where you aging sociopaths are all coming from...

But every once in a while, something wonderful is salvaged from the mire of crapulence that is an Old Git's Lot these days.

If against all the odds, the gods shine briefly for you, please share here, so we can moan about your good fortune on That Other Thread...

I'll kick off, and being a northerner, mine's not surprisingly about money. M and S insurance offered to beat my renewal quote by £50. It's the usual advertising spiel I generally bin. But my brainwave was that my old MGB was due to have its renewal, which is cheap anyhow as I'm (ahem) 'mature'.

Cost after to insure fully comp with protected NCB... £16!  :auto-dirtbike:

Lots of money left over to pay for rust inhibitor treatment and so on, yay!

Anytime I'm out on my VStrom, its not the newest and certainly not the shiniest (read cleanest) but always puts a smile on my face. Background, suffered depression quite badly last year and could only see the darkness ion everything. My younger brother called me one night to say that he'd bought a project bike an old G Reg S10. Spent the summer rebuilding and  getting ready for my test. That was  PITA couldn't beleive all the hoops that have to be jumped through. Anyway did my cbt did the theory, mod 1 then mod 2 on one of the wettest days of year in October last year and started riding the S10. Between Christmas and New Year get another call from my brother ( we do talk more often than this implies) who had spotted a Vstrom wiht lots of kit going for a very reasonable amount. Funds were tight due to Christmas and the fact that whilst I was off work with depression 9 weeks no pay other than ssp, so I had  to decline. Anyway he shows up a couple of hours later with the Strom. :welcome:   and says just pay him back when I can. What can I say, overwhelmed was an understatement :bawl: . The joy I get every time I get on the strom is only magnified knowing what he has done for me.  :auto-dirtbike:

Sorry to go on a bit but couldn't find words to cut it down any more

Wish I had a brother like that. I'd stay friends with a brother like that.

Sometimes I wish I had a brother.

My sisters alright though.

Top brother you have there Big, can I call you Big?

Tonight, while still at work, in a train station car park I found a £20 note. That cheered me right up.

This afternoon, while not at work, in my kitchen, I found beer. Similar effect.

My very recently turned 18 year old Daughter just took me to the pub and bought me this (with her own money)

Then after a quick downing and just 10 minutes later, she bought me this (still with her own money)

I'm more than filled with normal joy, I've waited years for that pint.

Thanks Babe xxx

Yep, a moment to treasure.

All those years of upbringing have not been wasted.

It's cheaper not to have children and just buying your own beer  :neen:

I get a real kick out of my kids buying for me, even though I almost always have to give them the cash first.

Me and bro in law accidentally got sent too many tickets for BSB. Got them through Groupon or some such thing. Just did Brands Hatch. Wife says technically its  stealing. I say technically I'm  off to Oulton Park in 2 weeks time :)
I look quick therefore I am.

You gave them an amount of money (in advance) and they sent you an amount of tickets afterwards. That's just a business arrangement. No problems there.
