The letter says the £50 is only valid against merchandise and accessories, does that include parts?

What would I want for my £50 (given that I have to make my mind up on the spot)?

I went into HBC Nottingham with every intention on buying a nice black DL1000... BUT they tried to offer me a derisory £3500 for my 2012 Glee GT (14500 miles) as a trade in value.

Needless to say, that for an extra 350cc I was not willing to take such a big hit.  Especially as they sold me the Glee in the first place for £8100 a little over two years ago.

Has anyone else almost taken the plunge and been put off by the incredible depreciation of Suzuki machines?

ouch!
It does feel insulting when they do that to a bike you've looked after (and that they sold you and serviced).
I had some ridiculous wholesale prices offered (which means they know they're covered no matter how long the bike stays on their floor). Went the private sale route which netted 50% above the wholesale offer.
Perhaps worth trying now your good weather is coming and riders are coming out of hibernation

I got a similar response with my 75K Moto Guzzi Breva not interested as a part ex but I haven't got the time to sell on e-bay. A few weeks ago Suzuki allowed some dealers to pre-reg the odd DL1000 with adventure pack and sell at £9000, clearly they sold fast and I coun'd find a home for mine. With the new plate only a month away don't think much will be moving till them maybe better buys in the autumn? Me I just keep stickin the miles on the MG.

I got £2500 for my 2006 DL1000 with no panniers or top box from CMW M/cs in Chichester which  I thought fair and bought their ex demo Glee. So the overall cost to change was acceptable. I am constantly surprised that owners think a dealer is going to give them retail money for their car/bike. A dealership is a business and like any has to make a profit to pay wages, rent, rates etc before profits. On top of the our government take what is called margin vat, which is 20% of the gross profit between buying and selling price regardless of any preparation cost. Makes you wonder why some dealers bother with the nett margins, and why Tesco pulled out of both bike and car retailing. There's more profit % in baked beans

A very good point. I understand the need for one to watch where we may be wasting money and we all like a bargain, but some of the posters  must be the sort that turn off the gas whilst they are turning the bacon over.

Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow.

If people  said what the whole deal was then you can say they are unrealistic as to the trade in value of their bike, but if someone cannot haggle all they can do is look at the difference in cost to them. This new DL1000 proves the case a dealer can give you a £1000 extra for your bike if you are paying full retail as the price is dropping quite quickly. I notice people do not like to say how much they pay for their bike or what the whole deal was , this would help people who cannot haggle see the whole picture and there would be no groans about it. The bloke who started this thread would have deserved better from his dealer as being a previous customer should have been looked after. Imagine how much advertising that dealer does to get new custom yet let's a customer that buys go look elsewhere.
