Went to buy a DL1000 today, but...
« on: May 16, 2014, 16:31:50 »
I went into HBC Nottingham with every intention on buying a nice black DL1000... BUT they tried to offer me a derisory £3500 for my 2012 Glee GT (14500 miles) as a trade in value.

Needless to say, that for an extra 350cc I was not willing to take such a big hit.  Especially as they sold me the Glee in the first place for £8100 a little over two years ago.

Has anyone else almost taken the plunge and been put off by the incredible depreciation of Suzuki machines?

Looking at the Suzuki finance calculator they offered you about £500 more than the GFV with 7000 miles over 2 years on PCP. Did you not get the deposit paid / cash back or whatever they've been offering since the early days?

I dreaded this scenario on my 650 recently. Eventually, I did get the deal I wanted. You need to be fairly agressive about it all.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I got up and left twice, during our "negotiations", only to be followed by sales bloke begging me to go back!

I ended up with bike at 6k and £200 over book on GSX1400 PX. Don't get me wrong, dealer will make my money on my bike. However, I was happy with deal overall. They also threw in a helmet and gloves (Long story).

I suppose it depends on how busy dealer is and how keen they are to sell. Maybe try another?

That was what I was thinking at the time.  I don't want to buy something that isn't even worth 50% of its screen price two years later, its just mental.  Lesson learnt.  I'll wait for someone else to take the hit, then I'll get one.  lol

how do you think I feel, one dealer refused to take my bike as a part ex as it "incredibly high mileage" @ 50k miles    I laughed, told him I'll come back with it in another 50k and see if the value has changed, walked out and gave him the finger.
Bevans in Cardiff.... great service there!

Try Wheels in Peterbourough, they might do a deal as theyyhavent managed to sell one yet :)  Or you could do what I did, sell your bike privatly.  This can get you more money, it didn't for me as I wanted shot of my 650 and slod it for what the dealer offered me.  No gain but gave me the satisfction that the dealer won't make 2 lots of profit from one sale :)

There's no secret to any of this. Dealers make profit on your initial loss following the purchase of a new bike.
I treated myself to my one and only new bike, my current 2012 Glee, with the express intent of keeping it until it, or I, die.

If I'd wanted to buy another bike after this I'd have bought used, simples. Depreciation is the way dealers employ people, run showrooms and make profits.  :)

With the 1000 at ten grand you lose five grand in two years, that's a big knock. So far I have not heard anyone getting the accessories at same time,so you spend more money and have to wait. I am willing and able to buy one but the dealers or Suzuki are not up to the job.

Timmo my DL was delivered to home towards the end of February ready for the 1st. With it came the centre stand and heated grips fitted by the dealer along with the sump guard which I fitted.
The graphics kit was fitted at the first service 2 weeks in and the luggage came at the same time.

Completely satisfied with my bike in fact done 180 mile round trip today followed by my wife on her bike and this returned 68 mpg and speed limits.

The bike has now done 2,500 miles and off to Germany on Thursday. I cannot be arsed with worrying about depreciation and all that as my signature says "Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow".

Spot on.

Little profit in new sales. 2nd hand and servicing + assesories is where money is....

That's about what they offered Josh (Jabmotorsport) on his against a new S10. P$$$ take as they'll whack at least £1500 on top of that. The only way to get a decent price on the Glee is to sell privately. My bike will be with me until it dies too

Got a begging letter from Suzuki today.
Basically it said "Pleeeze come and test ride a DL1000 and we'll give you £50 towards Suzuki products whether you buy one or not. And if you do buy one, we'll throw in a grands worth of accessories for nothing."
Not going so well, then? My local dealer has got two of them in the corner of the showroom behind other bikes.

I haven't had a letter either :bawl:
I'd really like one as I've just found out David Jones in Newtown has a demo which means great roads 50 yards from his shop. So if Suzuki are going to give me 4 free oil filters for the Glee just for having a blast around the Powys/Shropshire border on a new Veek then that'll do for me!
