Repair/service manual
« on: March 24, 2014, 19:42:20 »
Hi all,
I'm just about to invest in a manual for the beast, just so I know what I am up against when its comes the time I need to do some repairs or tinker with it.
Can anyone recommend the Haynes or should it be avoided?
I have one for the Varadero and I've had my moments with it, almost burned a few times!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Haynes are OK, sometimes deciphering what they mean can be a challenge, and the bloke who decides which pictures make it in and which ones get binned needs a slap from time to time, but generally they're OK.

Don't trust the torque figures below around 20nm, use feel instead, I've crushed washers, stripped threads and even broken lugs because of their inaccurate figures, I think they guess. If you know this though you can allow for it, I damaged components so that you don't have to. :)

There are errors in the manual, including too high torque specs.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

No, I'm sure Suzuki meant you to need a 3 foot bar to torque up an M6 cheese bolt.....

Mmm... It would seem that all of their torque figures come from the book of wild stabs in the dark, not just the lower ones, thanks GW.
