milky oil
« on: March 02, 2014, 16:26:27 »
Hi all,

Glee 2013, New in Dec and only 700 miles on clock. First service 100 miles back and oil now looks like this. The mechanic did mention slight milkyness when changing it at 6oomiles. Bike only commuting 8 miles runs through all this wet weather. Did 100 miles today and interestingly parked up next to another Glee at the Owls Nest, Llandovery and his window was the same.

Do I need to worry?

You don't need to worry if you are doing short trips in this weather. A long blast somewhere, or commuting again in warmer weather, and everything should be OK.

My old vw beetle had this all the time. Short runs the oil doesn't heat up enough. As others say, give it a blast then it'll clear.. :thumb:

It will take quite a while for the milky white to go away. To help you can clean the crank breather sponge in your air box frequently.

if it's just on the sight glass and inside the filler cap, it's quite normal, I do a 5 ile ride to work and it's exactly the same as yours atm, It will be sorted for a while tomorrow as I'm heading out to West Wales for a day in the lanes.
It'll be back by the end of the week... the mrs 125 doesn't have this 'problem'.
Jen laughed when I said you had 'milky spy hole'

Some have attributed it to pumping action of the twin engine on a bike that gets used through winter for short commutes, sucking in moisture through the air box breathers and the engine/oil not getting hot enough to vaporise the moisture and expel it from the engine casing.

You won't likely get any sense from Dragon Bikers- just scare tactics telling you to get it sorted ASAP.  :text-datsphatyo:

Get it on mine as well no need to worry I was told. All seems too clear up when and if the weather improves.

I've had it on mine all winter and at the end of a near 60 mile commute it's still milky. Been told only way to get rid is to change oil, oil filter and air filter

I think the general consensus is 'ride it more', that'll sort it right out. :)
