Glee immobiliser type? (for insurance quote)
« on: February 15, 2014, 00:49:07 »
Trying to get some insurance quotes online for my 2013 glee. The manual states it has an immobiliser key but does not specify further.
The (MCN) insurance search engine section titled 'security devices' lists 3 on the dropdown menu:
 'Suzuki System 1' ; 'Suzuki Security 2' ; and 'Suzuki S.A.I.S. immobiliser'.
I'm guessing the SAIS option, but does anyone know which (if any) is the correct one?  It's like the 3 cups & ping pong ball trick -and I feel like Tommy Cooper!  :confusion-confused:

See what happens if you don't tell them it's got one. Chances are the premium is the same regardless, sometimes it's actually lower without. If you tell them it has one and the circumstances of the theft present an alarm/immobiliser related reason to squirm, they'll squirm like there is no tomorrow.

Thanks blokes.
I looked in the old Suzi 2013 brochure I had from the dealer, and there it was lurking on the inside back page, S.A.I.S. just as stedor stated.
You may have a point Andy, I must admit I wouldn't trust any insurance company as far as I could throw them.   :ty:

Check your policy documents when they arrive, mine have arrived with 'Suzuki System 1' listed on two different occasions when I've specifically stated 'Suziki SAIS'. Buggers!

Policy documents......is that the fat envelope you get for your hundreds of pounds that gets chucked in a drawer until you go through exactly the same nonsense 12 months later?
I reckon Dick Turpin was employed by an insurance company. Same profession only they legalized it.. :text-datsphatyo:

I hunted around for car quotes last year, interesting. The same company quoted £45 less for reducing my excess from £300 to £150
Work that out if you can :wtf:

It's done by computer modelling. People who think far enough ahead to worry about their excess will include a proportion who've made a claim and dealt with the squirming and would rather just deal with a small issue themselves. These people are harder to deal with than the poor pleb who thinks the in-sewer-ants are there to do more than collect the premium and are therefore a larger statistical risk.

There is also the element of people who jack up the excess or list out their security devices assuming it'll reduce the premium but never check. The negative discount is just free money from stupid people (Sorry marketing head on: additional feel good purchase premium). It's like supermarkets three for a pound offers on 25p cans of beans.

I renewed my insurance a few days ago and the Swinton's website menu only offered me the option to choose either system 1 or System 2 in regard to the immobiliser on my Glee. I filled the policy in online citing System 1, then I read this post and thought I had better amend the policy so that it gave SAIS as the immobiliser.
I rang Swinton's who told me there was no option of SAIS on their system, and that I had filled in the online proposal citing System2. I was certain I had filled it In as System 1. Ho hum.
The only option the bloke could give was to list my immobiliser as unknown, non-manufacturer. How much did this add to the premium? £50!!!
So I cancelled that policy, rang Suzuki, who told me that the SAIS system should be classed as a System 1 and filled in another online proposal, being careful to select System 1. I then rang Swinton to be sure they had it down as a System 1 and blow me if my answer had not defaulted to System 2 again. Wonder what would have happened had my Glee been nicked.
Having sorted that out, subsequent conversations revealed that Swinton also wanted  £50 extra for classing my Givi Trekker luggage system as a "modification".
Even so, Swinton was cheapest.
