Belly Pan fasteners DL1000 K2
« on: October 11, 2013, 12:32:18 »
I want to renew the fasteners on the belly pan on the Vee. They are M6 x 12 ish. The reason for this post is in two parts.

1. To point out that Suzuki want over £5 per bolt
2. To ask what the correct terminology is for a bolt with a large head, the diameter of the head is approx 15mm.

£5 to replace a bolt made from cheese

Suzuki seem to excel in using cheese for their bolts and as I've taken various bits and off my bike I've replaced them with stainless ones. If you've got a nut and bolt supplier nearby (look under fasteners in the Yellow Pages), they should be able to fix you up with some nice stainless M6 x 12ish button head screws and some 6mm washers about 18mm in diameter. A drop of copper slip or grease on them when you fit them will ensure they will always come out easily in future.

By large head do you mean Flange head?

I've done some shopping around and technically they are not flanged. They just have a really large, exaggerated head (like some on here)  :)

Looks like they are only available from Suzuki (at a fiver a piece) so I will be using my initiative  :)
