Found 2nd hand Glee - Need advice
« on: October 04, 2013, 19:08:58 »
I've found excellent deal on 2nd hand Glee. It's year 2012, 7000 km's on it, equipped with bars, hand guards, Vario screen... Only item missing is top box, but I'll get one. It's 300 km away from the town I live in and I won't be able to go and pick it up before the 16th of this month. I hope it doesn't get sold.
I have few questions, as I've seen the bike on the photos only and I'll be able to check it out in person only on 16th:
- What do I need to carefuly check on it, are there any problems for 2012?
- I need to get disk lock few days before, so what pin size to get, I mean, what size the holes are on the disks?
- Is there anything else you can give advice on?

Thanks

PS: I'll pray it doesn't get sold before I go to get it

I live in the area with 300 sunny days a year and the area where this Glee is from has arround 250 sunny days a year. Neither has a snow... Never... Temperature in the winter never goes bellow +10ºC... So no salt on the streets and being 2012 with only 7000 km's (4300 miles) I hope the corosion is not the issue.

Is there a link to the photos?

If its such a good price what are the reasons for selling? Do they seem legitimate/convincing reasons?
Check for any signs that it has been in an accident (abrasion on the bar-ends, or pegs for example).
Is the rear tyre original? If it's been treated gently it might well be at 7000km...
Has it had brake pads replaced, especially at front
Has it been serviced? Check the book, or invoices.
Look at the oil, is it the right level and decent colour?
Has the chain been looked after, adjusted properly, and not bone-dry?

You know, I'm not sure about the dimensions of the discs for the Glee...
I see your point about the corrosion risks! I think kodkod is saying there's nothing particular to the glee to worry about at that age/miles except corrosion Eg see HERE

Just some general points there to think about...Good luck!

Look out for this.

viewtopic.php?t=16745

It's basically part of the a crossmember under the tank chaffing through a large part of the loom that runs over it, see the link for more details, I've placed a piece of old bicycle inner tube in between my loom and frame.

Yes, I've seen that post already. It was very good advice.

Here is the bike but they ask extra €500 for exhaust. As I told them I don't want it, they'll put the original exhaust back on it on the purchase day:

On the photo, I see crash bars but I have never seen them in that colour. Hand guards seem strange, probably some aftermarket brand. Mirrors look like Aprilia but I'm not sure. Is that screen Givi?

Mirrors don't look like Aprillia to me, good shout on getting them to put the original exhaust back on. The crash bars are official Suzuki bars.

And the hand-guards look similar to these...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Han ... 2a29f1b833

Original tyres, if he's offering the original exhaust at least it hasn't been wrecked (I'm so cynical!)
He might have the original mirrors, too?

The bike looks good!

That might not mean anything bad, just no demand or anyone with money around! Could be a good thing, if he wants it to move on you might get a better deal if you are prepared to bargain hard  .

No problem with bikes in dealers for a length of time, it means they've not been out being ridden since they got it.

There was a recall for the front brake light switch to be replaced. If it hasn't been done any Suzuki dealer should sort it for free - even if you do it yourself it only costs a few euros. Chances are the original one is working fine anyway.

Look for a white dot on the front brake light switch. If it's there, you know it's been replaced. Even if it isn't, the bike may be from a later run when the better switch was fitted at the factory.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
