V-Strom 650 vs. CB500X on RideApart.com
« on: October 03, 2013, 20:54:14 »
Seems to be the season for 'shootouts' involving the Strom. After MCN's 'soft-roader' article on September 4th, here's a straight comparison between the Glee and the CB500X on RideApart (which is rapidly becoming one of my favourite motorcycle sites.)

Spoilers: they love both bikes. ("Together, these are two of RideApart’s favourite motorcycles of 2013.")

I've ridden my Wee, a Glee twice and an hour blasting round the roads where I grew up on the CB500x and I'd say that write up is bang on... but being USA based the MPG figures are in US gallons and the Honda only comes in ABS in Europe.

I took the Honda out while on a ride with an experienced rider running in a new glee, watching the revs on the glee, but he said the little Honda was flying along and couldn't believe how planted it looked.
but I'd say the standard short screen was shiyt on the Honda and all I got was wind noise.

I was very tempted to put the strom in, but cost of luggage and bits, plus smaller rear seat and ragging a smaller engine on long runs 2up put me off. build quality was very good when you consider the price- typical Honda.

"Both motorcycles are extremely affordable, asking huge question(s) of all the larger, more expensive motorcycles in the ADV class."

Amen brother.
