Burgman 650 2007
« on: October 03, 2013, 20:49:51 »
I have just picked up the above bike that has done 10,200 and needs a little bit of TLC to bring it up to a great standard. The bike is a real belter, it is so smooth and quick and handles well due to its low centre of gravity. It is currently having a few bits powder coated and new shocks and fork springs (Hagons) and a full service. I paid the right money for it so quite happy to spend a few quid on it. I still love my other bikes but this one will IMHO prove to be their equal only a bit different. It tickles me if as a biker you say you have a scooter as well in this country many look at you as though you have an infectious disease, ah well they do not know what they are missing !

I ride scoots as well as bikes. While bikers may pay lip service to the 'it doesn't matter what you ride' ideal, they're happy to trash the idea of riding certain 2 wheelers like scooters (and BMWs naturally).

But twist and go has its place, and I enjoy both scooters and 'proper bikes'.

I'd consider a scooter if I was buying a city commuter. Though, I've heard plenty of reports of people touring on scooters, so maybe I'm doing them a disservice by just thinking of them as commuting tools...

I quite like Scooters as well - at least 300cc plus anyway. A big Burgman may well be my second bike  once I've finished with the Outfit. Can't understand the prejudice.

Cheers blokes re supporting the Scooter boys

I will! I've got a Sidecar Outfit so am well able to deal with any prejudice that comes my way for owning a Super Scoot!

Big scooters, great for doing long distance trips in bad weather, ran one of them strange Gilera Fuoco 500 two wheels at the front things for a year and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Handling wise I'd describe it as an armchair with grip but it was heavy due to the fancy front suspension so while it wasn't terribly quick it could still make most car drivers look silly.

I quite fancy a Yammy Tmax 500 for mucky winter ride outs but the damn things hold their prices so well.

I agree re all the positives re the scooters and including the fantastic T max, only problem with the T Max, mega price and no ABS ( here at least) IMHO all bikes need ABS and a must for a smaller wheeled scoot.

The engine on the big Burg takes some beating and the transmission is sublime. I love changing gear on my other bikes but the Burg is a great auto with manual overide and a "Power Button" to boot.

good luck with it - they are in a similar camp to harley davidson for me - I'd like a shot on one, but wouldn't ever own one!

probably fun though!

I had vespa 300 gts before the glee and it never let me down , toured France on it also with the old fabric through over panniers , would have kept it if I could have afforded to ,great commuter machine ,no gear changing issues so kind on the wrists etc .

Enjoy,

I've recently returned from a 11 day holiday in Croatia, never seen as many scooters......ever! Many big sized scooters whizzing about, great to see OK.

I've been riding a DL1000 Vstrom for around 5yrs now, I'd so love a big scooter some day OK. Be fantastic to ride through Europe on the likes of a Burgman 400cc or 650cc.

I test rode a Burgman 400cc last autumn and was surprised how great it was, twist n' go, fantastic thing..!!!!

Long live big scooters, I'm a fan alright.....!!!!!!

The Burgman 650 scooter is a brilliant scooter with performance. I have one down side with them though and that is servicing and general working on them. A valve clearance check is a days work. Also keep an eye on the hand brake mechanism as they seize up. But would/will own one eventually.

 :)
Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow.
