A 4k power band from max torque at 4k revs to max power at 8k revs is pretty great; it will only need a couple of gears.

What's that then? Does it translate to actual use I wonder?

After reading all that and looking at the pics I'm now firmly in the 'want one' camp.

Clicking on one of the pics brings up a gallery. I like the gear driven cams (from a chain driven primary), easy to just mark up and pop off for simple valve adjustment.

Well if it is 16% better than the old DL1000 according to the article, that would put the old DL1000 at 51mpg according to their numbers.

Looking at fuelly, the bell curve suggests an average of 48mpg for the old DL1000, and 51mpg is not a million miles away from that, suggesting a real life mid 50's mpg for the new bike. I could live with that.

Here's hoping they dump the 3.5k service interval.

10% less tank, 16% more mpg, means you actually gain in tank range even though the tank is smaller.

Already worked that out lol but the bike could have easily accommodated a 22-24l tank for increased range...partly why I bought my DL650 with its big tank as I tend to travel the more remote areas of Europe.

Tank capacity reduction and better mpg, giving equal or greater range, works for the Glee. :)

Don't really see what the Glee has to do with anything.....I personally because of the travelling I do would have liked a larger tank on the new DL1000 for me to consider buying it.

The fuel range looks good if it's to be believed...way I ride 2 up fully loaded it would probably give me a real world 200 mile range..

Most people don't have a 200 mile arse so that's probably about right for most riders.

I must say, my interest peaked quite a lot at the mention of gear driven cams. The older 'never say die' VFR used to have those and the cam gear noise was great :)

Anyone else noticed the bikes in the "studio" pictures are all low on oil ???

Hmmm, same power as the old Vee, basically same torque but spread over a much wider power band.

Yup, should be good for crusing around right on the grin inducing power at most real world speeds with the same top end as the current bike (if they are still restricting it to 125mph-ish).

Juv, the Vee has always had gear driven cams from a chain primary.

I think the original VFR750's were gear driven from the crank - no chain primary, if my memory of the old bike mags and their engine cut-aways is still intact   :old:

Whilst the Versys 1000 has a higher peak power, the DL1000 has more torque which peaks at 4k rather than 7.7k on the Versys. I think this will make the DL1000 much easier to ride faster.

The original vee was restricted for stability issues, hopefully with all their wind tunnel testing this won't be the case with the new bike.

The "old" Vee did have max power limited in the lower gears and the secondary throttle butterflies start to shut down at high revs to also limit the top end. Both of which can easily be sorted. I've run mine at an indicated 145+mph  and still accelerating without any stability issues on several occasions and regularly cruised for many miles at an indicated 120+ (abroad of course occifer!) without problems. What restrictions if any have been fitted on the new Vee remains to be seen. Certainly a wide torque range starting at low revs. is of much more use than having everything at the top end which is where 4 cylinder bikes tend to work best.

I like the look of the new Vee and if in the market for a new bike would certainly consider it. Quite like the look of some of the current Italian offerings (Aprilia, Benelli) but wouldn't buy one due to their long history of over costly servicing, spares prices with poor availability and iffy reliability. Wouldn't buy a BM for many of the same reasons plus don't want to be in the "club" again. Triumph seem to be losing the plot much along BMW lines so forget them. Not much left is there, although quite like the look (and price) of the new Yamaha MT09 just to awkward...

Yep, I noticed when I went looking at the engine in more detail, it still has a primary chain. I thought they changed it to be proper gear driven primary. Not that it makes any difference to me. I must say, I'm beginning to be more interested in it now, they've paid attention to some little things and I hope it's going to be as well received as the Glee was.

Did you notice the extenders they have put on the mirrors. I don't understand why they haven't just sourced different mirrors. Also the mud guard looks like it has an extender on it rather than just being a longer mud guard.
