SORN query

I'll be out of the country from mid September till mid October and the Wee's road tax runs out at the end of September. I'll want it on SORN when I return (a few jobs to do on it plus riding through winter was OK when I was young(er) and hardy but not these days.

To be a good little lad I want to put it on SORN from when the tax expires, ie start October, but there is no option to do this on the web page and the phone line is just an automated "press 3 to drive yourself mad" arrangement. So it will be theoretically illegal (although safely tucked up in a warm garage so not much chance of being seized and crushed....)

Anybody know if it's possible to do what I want?

The tax doesn't need to have run out for you to sorn it, just sorn it the day before you leave. You can use the online form to do so, all you need is your v5 reference and registration number.

When I had several bikes I forgot to do this until an £80 fine appeared through the post. Haven't forgotten since!

Pickaxe: Yes I know that office well but it's always packed with taxi drivers doing something mysterious & I end up waiting for hours.
