Vee/Wee seat question
« on: August 27, 2013, 15:57:11 »
Hi - I've a 2004 Vee and the seat feels lower than the 2003 I wrote off last year.

Is there an easy way to check (part  nos maybe) as being tall I would prefer the taller seat.

In the vstrom specific section. Juv has a parts compendium that has the various part numbers for all the seat types.
On tapatalk so can't find it for you sorry.

The seats for all years of the DL1000 are the same. It could be the previous owner changed the seat to a gel or DL650 seat. Check the seat bottom for a year cast into it. Vees started in 2002 while Wees started in 2004. There may appear to be a part number cast into it but the numbers on Vee and Wee seats I've had did not correspond to published part numbers.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I've got the Tall Seat (+40mm), but this is coded as 45111-06000

I checked with Mick on the one he is currently selling, which is coded the same as mine. This code does not appear on Juv's list. Anyone able to confirm what this number really is?

Mine is coded 45111-06000 , and the first of the final 3 zeros could possibly be a G (or a zero with a right angle overlaid ?). Anyway, whatever the code is, I measured the difference in height compared to my 650 seat, and this one is 40mm higher.

As far as I understand it the first bit of the part number pertains to the bike/model and the last bit to the part itself. I added it to the seat info I have, it might help someone else :thumb:

Sorry, I misquoted the number on the previous post (tried to do it from memory).

I have corrected my post and all the following ones to reflect the right numbers. Mine is the same as Mick's.

I'm fairly sure me and Locky have the same part number on our seat as you MartinW-
Quote from: "MartinW"
45111-06000

we compared at FatRat's as I wasn't sure if it was a modified Wee seat or Vee seat as I got it from Tusker and he wasn't sure where it came from and he thought it was a Wee seat until he asked.

Locky said his was a standard seat off a Vee???

I did feel high when I rode back from swapping with Tusker, but I'me fairly sure it's never been worked on when you turn it over and look at the staples and there are no extra holes from previous staples.

I'll have another nose in the morning.

So to add to the confusion, Mick85 has measured his bike with a 45111-06000 seat on, and the standard Wee seat. He sees a 40mm difference.

I will measure mine tomorrow, with both seats, and see what I find.

OK I got this seat of tusker. He said it came with the bike and didn't know it wasn't a stock 650 seat.

Me and locky compared seats at FatRats and they were the same.
45111-06000

By the look of the markings mine was made in december 01 so its a very early seat.

Maybe the numbers on the seat base don't really mean anything ? When I compared the seat to the one on my 650, it was definitely nearer 40mm higher than 20mm. It's not too easy to measure the difference side by side, of course, but I am confident it is the touring seat. If not, I feel I'll be getting it back through the post !

Just take us some seat height side on pictures with both fitted, we can tell from that whether it's a Wee/Vee/Touring seat, they are easy to tell apart if you've seen them before.

Ah - if only I could ! The touring seat is on its way to Liverpool. Rob (instigator of this post) has bought it.

I've still got both, so I will do that this afternoon.

I just looked at a Vee in a dealers and that also had the 45111-06000 seat.

That's a not a seat part number. Other than stock height seats are built on the same pan. The 2001 date indicates it is the pan used on the stock DL1000 which is a little wider than the DL650 seat pan. You will only find forums and Ebay hits doing a search on 45111-06000, not a Suzuki parts supplier. The Vee seat part number is 45100-06G10-H1N and the Wee seat part number is 45100-27G00-H1N. The number may have changed slightly from older fiches, but such a change would be slightly different and in the number to the right of the dash.

OK, Comparison photo’s below. The Lower Seat was standard on my Wee (45111-27G00), The Higher Seat was one I bought on the forum, which was advertised as the Touring Seat (45111-06000).

This photo was done on a Tripod, with the seat swapped. The camera was slightly lower than seat level, but there is almost a line of bricks difference in height.

Rather unscientifically placing a spirit level on the seat and against a wall, with a line drawn for each seat, shows a distance on 38mm (So basically the expected 40mm on what wasn’t a super accurate measurement.

View of the two seats side by side (With the back ends aligned to each other). Low Seat to the Front, High Seat to the back.

View of the two seats side by side (With the front ends  aligned to each other). Low Seat to the Front, High Seat to the back.

View from the back side of the seats. Low Seat to the Left, High Seat to the Right.

View from the front side of the seats. High Seat to the Left, Low Seat to the Right.

So it seems to me that my Touring Seat is 40mm higher than a standard Wee seat.

As Greywolf points out, the part number we are all quoting is probably more to do with the seat pan than the amount of padding added. I guess each seat needs assessing on a case-by-case basis.

Juv - Will leave it for you to decide how to word the Compendium now.
