Here's a bit more detail on the new Vee from Suzuki's head of development on the new DL's. sounds like they have lowered the seat, reworked the original engine and designed dedicated luggage for the new model. Sounds like a release is not too far off to me...

I like it a lot more now , glad they changed the footpeg mounting , I hate it when they weld them to the frame . Not sure why I like it more ! Could be the colour and seeing it on the road . The end can looks like it would be a easy swap for a aftermarket can . Wonder what it will cost and how heavy it will be ?

I don't know how good that single headlamp will be though.  One of the things I really like about the Stroms is the way they light the road up at night.  Otherwise I like it, it'll be down to price and economy when it comes out though.   :auto-dirtbike:

At Donnington the weekend of the WSBK Suzuki had one in their sales stand. Really does look nice in the flesh. Not as big as the concept pics made it out to be. unfortunately it had a barrier around it and I tried my best to get a sit on the bike but the rep was having none of it.

I'm a bit worried by some of the things he says.

Sounds like a cramped riding position for all but short-arses - or maybe they made the seat adjustable for non-midgets?

Narrower panniers? does that mean too small? I bet when he goes touring on his Strom he ain't camping!

Nah, narrower as in "not having to fit over the two wide exhausts on the old Vee" and on dedicated mounts instead of a poorly made rust-prone aftermarket rack.

I quite like it, but then, I also quite like a 1200 Explorer, or an FJR1300...just don't like the Explorers silly valve adjustment interval.

The engine and frame needed work to bring them back in line with the competition - 130mph without the threat of impending weave induced doom.

I'll be looking for a new bike next season & should have about 10k or so to spend, I'll be wanting a test ride.

Typical Suzuki, they are a couple of years behind with the release of a new V-Strom, I'm sure when it hits the showrooms it'll already be out of date......!!!

Suzuki must have lost sales with dropping the DL-1000 a few years back and then had nothing to replace the 1000cc Adventure slot.

If I had to change my V-Strom I'd be buying the Honda CrossTourer 1200cc 'V'4, an great tool.

Abercol, Explorer valve clearance is every 20k isn't it? What's wrong with that? It's better than my Glees 14,500.

If it comes in sub 10K then I will be at the front of the queue.

It'll be under 10k Andy, that's my personal guarantee, it's directly up against the Versys (£9,499) and it's a Suzuki.

You can order a "brochure" on the web site now, but I wouldn't bother - it's just a gatefold A3 flier which doesn't show or say anything more than you can already read on the web. However, the covering letter says "The new model, set to take centre stage at this year's Motorcycle Live, ahead of its 2014 arrival..."

MCN (I know, I know) suggested last week that it could be sub-£9k, to fit with the competition's prices and Suzuki's usual pricing strategy. (I know, I know, it's MCN!)

The problem will be, as a brand new bike, there won't be many further discounts on the asking price. Whereas even if the Versys theoretically has a slightly higher asking price, they'll discount it like crazy.

I like the look of 'er, just needs a replacement exhaust can and it's sorted as the stock one is a bit fugly. If it comes in under £9 k it'll sell well.

Just wait for enough people to not buy it when it launches and the price will drop :)

So - a v-strom.co.uk pact not to buy just yet, then the price falls, and then v-strom.co.uk puts in a large 'fleet' order with a further discount...Cunning eh? :thumb:

Early adopters pay the price not just in terms of having to pay full retail price, but also in there not being all the accessories you might need for it developed by third parties yet.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

If I had the money I would probably buy bikes new, I simply don't so I have to wait until they come up 2nd hand at decent prices. Even then I can't buy something that I couldn't fix myself or that has a history of lots of failures because I don't have the money to keep paying to get it fixed. Waiting makes sense for me, but without the early adopters there'd be no 2nd hand bikes :)
