You can get at the side plugs easily enough. The center ones require lifting the fuel tank and moving the radiator. I advise replacing plugs with iridium types that last practically forever at the same time the valve clearance inspection is done. The work required to check the valves makes plug access child's play.

Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Thanks Greywolf,
yea got the iridium ones to stick in + air filter. If I do the valve check do I require new gaskets? How long do you reckon to do the job. If they need adjusting and are not a million miles out will leave until the winter to adjust. I am fairly handy on the spanners.

Might as well adjust them while you're there, you've already done most of the work to check them.

Old gaskets can almost always be reused unless they are manhandled badly.
