What should I do part ex or keep?
« on: June 21, 2013, 15:00:41 »
Just been into my localish Suzuki stealer for a cargo net and got offered £4000 for my 2010/2011 DL650  :wtf: said I could have a brand new no mileage Vstrom (Glee) for £3000. It has no extras on it but seems to be a good deal! What do I do? He's not interested in the Madstad or DL1000 seat and other extras, he just said take them off. What are the thoughts of the members who have Glee's? Is it a better bike ect, ect. Or should I stick with what I've got. Oh the dilemmas we face sometimes.  :)   :ty:

I would, but then I doubt I would get that offered for my 50k mile bike even though it is newer than yours.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

Presumably that is £3,000 on top of the part-ex?

Is it going to be £3,000 better?

hmm, tough one Jeff,

I bought my glee new last year. paid 7.5k for it with all the stuff, luggage rails, luggage, centre stand etc...

you'll be paying, with trade in, only £500 less but have to add all the bits.
With your mileage and age of bike I'd be tempted to keep it.

whatever you do good luck :thumb:

It was taxed last week and I give him 3k and ride away with a new bike and a full fuel tank.. So if I go for it there will be all the extras I put on the bike I have now up for sale including the DL1000 seat, Madstad, footpeg lowering kit, Migsel mount and quite a few other bits.  :)

Money wise, the sensible thing is to keep the one you have.

Get the newer one!  :thumb:

(and to restore a modicum of sense, sell off the old upgraded bits if you no longer need 'em)

Yours is immaculate, low mileage, sorted with all the bits, and the right colour. You'd still take the hit on instant depreciation to get new...why bother

In my brief time recently considering trading the Glee for a new bike (I came to my senses), I learnt that dealers don't give a monkeys what you've added to the bike. As far as they're concerned, the book says £X,XXX so that's what it's worth... you could have plated it in gold and it'd still be worth that much. Possibly a few extras that they see as making it easier to sell on like a top box may grease the wheels of a deal slightly, but in my experience is doesn't seem to add a massive amount to the money they'll give you for it.

People, on the other hand, do sometimes value the extras you've added to a bike if they're things they were planning to add anyway. So my theory is that if you've kept your bike as stock it may be worth part exchanging it, but if you've added lots of good stuff, you're better off with a private sale.

This isn't based on a vast amount of experience though... but it's the impression I get.

Valid points from Gassoon and Loggamatt. Especially since I've only just done all the electrics and other extras. The new bike would need all those at quite an expense, so I'm going to keep it. If it ain't broke and all that. Thanks blokes.   :)  :auto-dirtbike:

One dealer told me that he spoke to their Suzuki bloke who said he would sell a new DL650 for £5,000. Was this bloke lying to me to get me agree to a low trade-in for my bike? Or are the other dealers lying when they say "can't possibly go a few hundred below the list price sir..."

Either way, someone at a dealer is lying to me about something. I'd love to know what the real 'lowest price' that a dealer would accept for bike is...

Glees are on offer at 5500 to 5700 at the moment. Then how much to bling it up to the standard you require.

Whatever, the Vee, Wee or Glee is still the best value for money bike on the market, IMO :thumb:  :thumb:

Basic bog standard no extras what so ever. Not even the £800 deal which may have swung it. I'll save my money and treat my self to some goodies for it or me. Any suggestions?  :)

Good decision, the Glee is not £3k better than even a K4-K6 Wee :)
