Clutch Slave Cylinder
« on: June 09, 2013, 16:26:41 »
I have a slight intermittent weep from the bottom of my clutch slave cylinder.

Bike is a 2005 KLV 1000 with 11500 miles on the clock.

I have had it in bits and cleaned what I can, but its still doing it.

Can this be repaired with just a new rubber bellows type seal? Or is it time to replace all the clutch slave? There seem to be very few serviceable parts on this slave.

Any help from someone who has gone through this process would be appreciated.

Just had another look at the service manual. It would appear there is a seal on the piston cup. I guess this is the seal that needs to be replaced. Any other bits whilst I in there?

AFAIK, just the seal and check that the piston is in good condition.

Yup, you can get an aftermarket pattern seal kit off e-bay. When mine started leaking last year I took it off the bike, stripped it, cleaned it all out and gave the piston & bore a slight rub down with very fine emery paper soaked in brake fluid to remove the deposits that had caused the seal to fail in the first place. Cleaned it all up with brake cleaner and refitted to the bike. Bleeding the line was easiest with a syringe from the bleed nipple (after already fully draining the old fluid from the system as I wanted to replace it).

The kit contains the piston seal and a replacement bellows seal.

Not had a problem with it since it went on.

Hi Abercol,

Any chance you could post me a link to the kit you bought.

I inquired about a kit listed for the 02 - 04 DL1000 but was informed by the seller it wouldn't fit my bike. Your newer (07) bike will have the same clutch slave as my KLV so I should end up getting the right kit then.

Thanks in anticipation.

Oops, my mistake, I thought I'd got it off e-bay, but I bought it at M&P....

280872 Clutch Slave Cylinder Repair Kit, £18.39

But the same thing is on e-bay, item no. 370831155516 for much the same price.

The kit fits RF900, SV or TL 1000 & any KLV/DL1000 will do as they all use the same clutch slave cylinder.

2002-2009 all the same, the parts never changed, they just fitted the bellows on later models to help protect the seal & a new bellows is in the kit as standard.
