Some quick advice needed on DID Chains
« on: April 11, 2013, 10:24:09 »
Hi,

I ordered this off ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190613170345? ... 97.c0.m619

Clearly advertises it to be for the DL1000 and the Photo clearly shows it as the DID 530vx.

They sent me the 525vx. I didn't know what this meant so I've been googling and found this:
http://www.surfsidemoto.com/store/produ ... WZ-HqI3u8A

This says:
The D.I.D PRO-Street X-Ring VX Series Chains provide the ultimate in performance and durability for your dual sport, sport bike or sport touring bike at low O-Ring chain prices and are available in 428VX, 520VX2, 525VX and 530VX sizes.

The D.I.D PRO-Street X-Ring 428VX Series Chain is suitable for street bikes up to 350cc.
The D.I.D PRO-Street X-Ring 520VX2 Series Chain is suitable for street bikes up to 750cc.
The D.I.D PRO-Street X-Ring 525VX Series Chain is suitable for street bikes up to 750cc.
The D.I.D PRO-Street X-Ring 530VX Series Chain is suitable for street bikes up to 1000cc.

So essentially they've sent me a lesser quality chain that is only suitable for up to 750cc???

Anyone know anything about DID chains before I start my row with them?

Thanks

Andy

I don't get why the DID website would say it's for a 750cc max then? You %100 sure it's right?

If you google DID 525vx 750cc, it comes up straight away on the main site.

I'm also baffled by chain and sprocket kits. heavy duty/extra heavy duty, 525/530, fakes/genuine, £87/£165 for a kit etc etc.

This  is what Juvecu wrote  " V strom Information Compendium"

All Vee models use a 17 teeth front sprocket and 41 teeth rear sprocket, but note that there seems to be some confusion about this as some claim it's a 42 rear sprocket. Check what you have on your bike at the moment before you order replacements.
All Vee models use a 112 link 525 chain.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I put an E.K Gold 525 chain on my Vee last year with JT sprokets. Its a minefield if you are looking on e-bay, everyone says their chain is the dogs danglies. If in any doubt, stick to the big brands and go for X-ring Z-ring or similar . The "gold" refers to the finish on the side plates.

I remember the first o-ring chain I bought in the 80's...waht a revelation over the old non-sealed chains...it lasted ages!!

Thanks mate I know, I researched for ages so went for DID cause they are supposed to be good. but then I came across the 525 &530 issue. so confused, why would that be the right chain when several websites say only suitable for up to 750cc.

Just need to know if to send it back or not!

You should be replacing your sprockets along with the chain. The main difference between the 530 and 525 chains is the size. Unless you do a conversion, you need 525 chains and sprockets. 750cc sport bikes make significantly more power than the 1000cc V-Strom.
