Hid bulb placement? help please...
« on: April 09, 2013, 10:07:24 »
Silly question time again.....just installed my HID lights there this evening after passing my MOT. Just want to make sure on one thing though, The half cover/reflector should be at the bottom on the light, on the underside of the light. heres what the beam pattern looks like on dipped..is this about right? was going to take it to a local garage and see how it is on the headlight alignment machine.

Yes. It only fits one way. The prongs on the H4 base are not symmetrical.

The pattern looks typical in the center though placement is hard to determine. Remember I'm on the other side of the road so that makes a difference. It looks like your pattern drops on both sides where mine doesn't do that. Your reflector pattern is different from mine. If you headlights light up what you need to see on both high and low beam but don't dazzle oncoming traffic on low beam, you're good. I've never had any oncoming traffic flash their lights at me as I'm very careful to keep the beam at a proper height.

What HID lighting kit did you use? I had an eBay "special" - brilliant, it eats bulbs though, which have, so far, been replaced FOC. Pain in the arse, it means I have to carry the H4s on longer trips. Another problem when out with a group, riders in front of me complain that they make my front indicators very difficult to see. Not MY problem - but!

I used the vvme kit and have a spare HId bulb as well as the original H4's. The VVME kit seemed to get good reviews from a few forum members on here. time will tell I guess

Same as my kit. Different pattern though - mine still kicks up to the left.

To be honest, I'd prefer your pattern since I ride on the continent a fair bit, and it would save having to blank of the 'kick' :)

Yeh I was thinking about the wee reflector stickers for when I go to europe for 2 weeks, to stop dazzling other road users.

got it checked out on the machine and the beam pattern is spot on and is ever so slightly on the lower side of the tollerance. the lights don't look visually different from normal ones. slight tinge of yellow but more white. Will see what they are like at night when I go to get the ferry at 2100 tonight.
